so they stick mph up there in the corner and stick a big ass ol RPM meter in the middle? -

waste of space -

Actually this means you don't have to divert you're eyes away from the road as much to view the mph, and the large tachometer lets you get a general idea of your rpm without diverting your attention away as much.

Anyone who has a Honda Civic as their dreamcar certainly has low aspirations in life, but I don't see why you people are all so quick to bash the Civic, for it's class and price range it's a very well built and reliable vehicle, and it certainly competes quite well in the style and performance categories against it's american comepetitors of say, a Ford Focus or Chevy Cavalier.

I'm looking at getting a car in this price range, but I'm looking more into a Volkswagen. I hear those Mk V Jettas drive really nicely.

My other question: Why do you need a big-ass tach on a car with an automatic? I can understand with a manual tranny (though my manual doesn't include a tach), but why with an auto? Annoying.

I was going to make the same correction, until i looked at a new camry

They do look very similar, although neither is very disitinctive or unique in it's own right.

When it comes to a civic I care about how well the car is built, as the reason I would buy a civic is to save money

If they are as well built as they have been before then it's a good car, I don't think how it looks matters much

Personally, I don't like VW for a few reasons.
1. I have some weird bias where I think of them as a chick car
2. They spend a lot of time in the shop
3. They are overpriced as if they are a luxury, but aren't any better than your standard car. They don't get the same respect as the big 3 german automakers.

Of course, most of this probably comes from my sister owning a shitty jetta and it spending alot of time broken down because she doesn't know how to drive well. I know nothing of how nice they are to drive.

I agree with the tachomoeter on an automatic, very confusing and unneccesary. My friend used to have an old truck that was a standard with no tachomoeter, I don't how he lived with it.

Meh. I used to spend a LOT of time around Camrys, but I still don't think that the new Civic looks much like the Camry at all. I dunno.

You just get used to it. Nowadays when I drive a stick with a tach, I barely look at it. I've been driving this same truck for 6 years now, and it's the first vehicle I've ever owned. I don't know much different.

Was it a New Beetle, perchance?
