Let's say you're in a super satellite to a major tournament. Assume you would not buy in to the tournament if you don't win your seat.
You have a big stack and you are guaranteed to fold your way into the money. Only one more player has to bust, and several short stacks will be all-in on the very next hand. A big stack that has you covered pushes in. Everyone folds to you. You have AA in the big blind. So you have a 100% shot if you fold and a 80% shot if you call. Does anyone call here, just for the action? Note: I know the correct EV play is to fold. But would anyone call, just for the sake of gambling? |

I don't see the reason to call in you have a 100% chance of winning a seat if you fold. Fold and laugh.

I'd fold... but I'd like to see someone call and break the chipleader & he busts out of the money =]

If I hate the chip leader's guts, and I have a friend on the bubble.. maybe.

I fold those aces face up and laugh. Seriously, the day I make this call is the day I sign up for gamblers anonymous or something.

So am I right in assuming that there is no reason to come in 1st in this tournament? (Basically, if one more player busts out, you win the seat into the other tournament and nothing else?)

Yes, there is no benefit to coming in first. Everyone who "wins" gets the same prize.
