Re: Call or fold, boys (and girls)?
[ QUOTE ]
why did you bet the river? check/call seems good. The way you played it, I fold if against a decent player. [/ QUOTE ] Most people here recommend folding. So shouldn`t you be more likely to call a decent player`s raise than a bad player`s raise here. In other words: is raising with something like a low pocket pair a good play here. |

Re: Call or fold, boys (and girls)?
For this bluff to be worthwhile, it needs to work just under 25% of the time, because you are spending 2BB to try and steal 8.66BB.
I don't think that's going to happen. Sure, we might recommend laying this down here, but most people in this spot will call your raise anyway, and if people have noticed you bluff raising before, you're getting called here too. I wouldn't try it unless my opponent were very weak-tight. |

Re: Call or fold, boys (and girls)?
Preflop 3bet puts him on a big hand. Stayed quiet until the ace fell. I hate folding for one bet in 10BB pot but it seems pretty obvious you are beat. Unless you can talk yourself into believing he would bluff-raise at this, it's a fold.

Re: Call or fold, boys (and girls)?
Check/call the river. I don't like calling the raise though. It's really close... however he would have to be very bold to raise on the river with a lower PP (it seems odd that he woke up on the river). I think for the villain you have described, this is a bluff less than 10% of the time and I throw it away (although easier said than done).

In other words: is raising with something like a low pocket pair a good play here? [/ QUOTE ] No. The way this played out, villain has no reason to think that hero doesn't have AK or QQ-AA. EDIT: I haven't found too many opponents (even fairly AG villain) capable of a bluff raise on the river (esp when I capped the flop). I've called a number of times in situations like this and so far 100% have been legit hands. |

Re: Call or fold, boys (and girls)?
[ QUOTE ]
I never-ever fold this heads-up. 10:1 odds. He can have a pocket pair a lot of times. Well at least 1 out of 11. Folding is a big mistake. Check-calling looks good after you see the results but I think I would check it and hope to induce a bet by a lower pair. [/ QUOTE ] I don't think folding is a big mistake here. I think betting is the big mistake, but thats different. I can't see a smaller pocket pair here, they go to war earlier vs our suspected overcards. |

Re: Call or fold, boys (and girls)?
I know I'm in the minority, but I agree with the bet here on the river. For the villain to call the turn I would put him on a pocket pair(at that point). I too would vomit on the river raise, but I would still call. I think I win at least one time in ten.
