Hold'em (9 handed) converter
Preflop: Hero is Button with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. MP2 posts a blind of $0.05. 3 folds, MP2 (poster) checks, 1 fold, CO calls, Hero calls, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: (5 SB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players) SB checks, BB checks, MP2 bets, CO calls, Hero raises, SB calls, BB folds, MP2 calls, CO folds. Turn: (6 BB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) SB checks, MP2 bets, Hero calls, SB calls. River: (9 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) SB checks, MP2 bets, Hero raises, SB calls, MP2 folds. Final Pot: 14 BB Table is fairly loose, 4-6 people to the flop. Reads : MP2 is a little tight, and semi-aggressive. He has shown down top pair with a decent kicker a few times. SB is fairly loose, plays a lot of hands and shows down with top pair, crappy kicker or even less then top pair sometimes. No other reads. I am curious how my play is. Preflop I limped due to position and the fact that its a loose table. When the flop hits and I have middle pair + a gutshot straight draw I figured it was a fairly strong hand. When the turn hits as a blank for me, I slow down a bit but figure I have some good outs and the pot is fairly large by then. The river is standard for hitting my trips, I was not worried about a runner runner flush in this instance. Did I play this correctly or was the flop raise too aggressive? How would you play the turn? |

I like flop raise. If your read is correct then MP2 may have a queen and gaybet the blank. The turn call is ok, you may be behind but have odds to improve. River is nice. I hope you took note of what SB CC'ed with and that MP2 folded for 1 bet. nh

I don't limp here.
I'm not crazy about the flop raise, especially if MP2 is likely to 3-bet and lead at you. The CO calling gums up the works a bit also. The turn call is also dubious w/ that board. How many outs are you giving yourself? |

Thank you for your comment and encouragement that I played the hand correctly. |

He would have re-raised me there only with a hand I do not want to even try to draw against. I squarely put him on a Q or some form of a straight draw from the flop so I wasn't concerned with him 3 betting me. CO calling is nothing surprising, he has called down before with top pair crappy kicker and bottom pair. He is not a worry for me unless he raises which is rare. Im getting 9:1 to call the turn, with fairly good implied odds if I hit my hand. I feel my 2 Js are good as are 4 9s. I also discounted and gave myself 1 out for a 10, since it was a weak out and tainted. Thats 7 outs, which is close enough to call with implied odds, or am I doing something wrong there with the math? |

You're actually getting 7:1 to hit your 6 outs (I discounted your T outs pretty heavily).
I don't really have a problem with this hand. I might not raise the flop, but I think it's fine. I would like it a lot better if MP2 was unknown. |

Maybe it wasn't the right call on the turn then mathematically. Why do you like it better if I had no read on MP2? |

Why do you like it better if I had no read on MP2? [/ QUOTE ] Because our raise would induce that little punk to check to us on the turn. |

I had that in my mind as well, that maybe if I raised him on the flop he would check to me on the turn and if I hadn't hit, I could catch a free river card. It didn't work =P |
