If you want extra protection, either break the deck into several piles and put them into a new order, or use a Scarne cut--cut a group from the middle, toss it on top, repeat as desired.

I use a cut card that is placed in the deck wihtout another touching the deck. Then the deck below the cut card is moved to the top.
