Question on play
I am a new user.
I recently was in a no-limit cash game 300 or so buy in 2-5 blinds 8 on the table. My first time playing against several of the players. I am at position 4 with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] offsuit. 3 folds to me, I bet $25. 5 folds, 6 calls, everyone else folds. Flop. 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I bet $40, 6 calls Turn j [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I bet $55, 6 calls River 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I check, he goes all in with his last $40 I call he had q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Now this isn't your typical bad beat story. The guy gives me some free poker advice and tells me "Dude, you played that had so badly". I ask "how so". "Dude, this is a no-limit cash game, you should have bet so much more if you wanted me out." I said "ok, thanks". 1. Is this true? 2. Should I be happy to play this guy? 3. I had a losing session that night, so I am second guessing many moves. |

Re: Question on play
1. Well since you had the best hand when you were betting you do want him to call, but during the hand I would want him to fold pretty fast because you dont know where your at, your out of position, pot committed, and chances are your not ahead.
2. yea, callin station. 3. well backing your stack iwth ace high isnt always a winning proposition |

Re: Question on play
full pot the flop and he might fold, full pot the turn and he might fold. In my experience draws will take a card off if you let them see it relatively cheaply on the flop, but when the turn bet is really big, they will usually go away.

Re: Question on play
Let me say up front that I think your opponent played the hand very poorly preflop and flop. But here is what he may have been thinking - You missed flop and were contiuation betting, I will take the pot from him if he checks the turn. Then he hits the club draw, and you gave him the right price on turn to call you. I have ran into a lot of players who always think you have AK if you raise preflop, so when a low flop comes they make some pretty loose calls.
To answer your questions: 1. I think your flop bet was fine, as long as you bet the same amount with made hands. His call on the flop was horrible. He should have raised you if he thought he could take you off the hand, and that can be the only argument for calling, he can't think his Q high is good. On the turn, if had only $95 left, you need to push or check, at this point he should have called your turn bet. He has to think he has 12-15 outs (15 if you include the Q). 2. Yes 3. Don't worry too much about 1 losing session, but it is never a bad idea to analyze why you lost. |
