Re: AK Post flop
I would have bet the river because there were no draws so Villian already had the 2nd best hand and would call a reasonable bet. I would not check/raise the river because I don't think Villian is going to bet it. Lucky for you Villian did bet the river, you just forgot to raise...

Re: AK Post flop
You really think he could have AK? Wouldn't AK 2-bet it on the flop?
I just couldn't put him on a hand which is what scared me. The only possible hand I felt he could have that I beat was KQ which he would be a fool to call preflop. Anyways by the river his cold-calling had scared me enough that I was sure he had 77 which he did indeed have. |

Re: AK Post flop
With no reads, I think you played it fine. The hands villain most likely holds is either a weaker K, 44, or 77. If you bet out on the river, each of these hands is likely to raise you. By check/calling the river, you lose the least from a monster, but you do not gain as much as you could from a worse hand. I do not think this river decision is as easy as some of the other posters have made it seem.

Re: AK Post flop
I think that you played it correctly. I probably would have lost everything b/c I would have pushed on the turn to take pot down in fear of the flush, not even suspecting a set/FH... and lost to the FH... nice read.

Re: AK Post flop
There's no reason to check that river because if he has any of the hands that beat your trip kings, there's no way he's going to check that river and let you see the free showdown (and I don't think you can really lay down trip kings on the river in this situation). If he has a hand that's behind trip kings though, there is a good chance that he'll check the river for a free showdown and you won't get paid as much as you could have. Checking the river is a lose/lose situation for you.
