Default Dinner at Wolfgang\'s

9pm res at Wolfgang's. So, rather than start drinking at 6, we decide to work out and meet for a drink at 8. F'in great idea. After a quick run and 45 min of weights, I make it to Ulysses on Stone Street for a Boddington's at 8:09pm. Then we get on the train to Wolfgang's.

Get there at 8:55. Chick says the table is "almost ready" and will call us at the bar. I wait at the bar for a few minutes then order two Brooklyn Brewery Lagers. Seconds after we receive the beers, we are escorted to our table. Very sketch, this whole thing.

BTW, the space is sweet. Very nice.

So, here's what we order.

Wine: Clos du Val Cabernet.
Appetizer: 3 slices of thick, delicious bacon.
Main Course: Porterhouse for 2, Medium-Rare.
Sides: Creamed Spinach and Cottage Fries.

Waiter brings our wine, which is delicous.

Oh yeah, we have some bread. Tasty.

He then shows up with our bacon. He says "one of the pieces was small, so I added another" and then gives us two slices each. MONEY! Why can't more waiters figure out stuff like this? (BTW, a slice of bacon goes for $2.50) The bacon is delicious.

The rest of the meal arrives. The steak is great, as expected. I have some dipped in the butter and juices. Then I have a couple slices in the Wolfgang's sauce, sort of a cocktail sauce w/ horseradish. Really delicious. Then a couple more slices plain. Then a couple more w/ sauce. Steak for two means more than enough steak for three.

The creamed spinach was insanely good. Best creamed spinach I have ever had. Some creamed spinach is like greasy sauteed spinach. Other creamed spianch is almost like spinach dip there is so much cream. This was a perfect blend.

The cottage fries were great. Looked much better than the german potatoes at the next table. Thanks for the heads-up, jnalpak!!! I'm surprised that none of the reviews mentioned that they were basically potato chips, though. Essentially, these are huge potatos sliced into huge slices and fried like super-big super-thick potato chips. Awesome.

We ate just about all of the steak, most of the spinach, and about half of the cottage fries. Then we finished off the meal with a couple of double espressos. Dessert was out of the question.

Head to the Gingerman for a Balvenie Doublewood Scotch. Then headed to the Flatiron Lounge for some delicious cocktails. What a great bar.

So, Wolfgang's. Yeah, I recommend it.

Would it be rude to ask how much it cost?

this made me hungry.

And I bet if this post were made by anybody else it would devolve into an "I like my steak rarer than you!" contest, or maybe a "Sauce on a steak?? Blasphemy!" discussion

(This is all for two including tax/tips)

Beers at Ulysses: $16
Beers at Wolfgang's: $16
Dinner at Wolfgang's: $220
Scotch at G-man: $24
Drinks at Flatiron Lounge: $110

It is important to note that the drinks at the Flatiron Lounge should really have been about half that price, but just as we were leaving some things happened and more drinks than planned or desired ended up being consumed.

An appetizer of bacon? Hmm, that was unexpected.

Now you have to go get a tmeal at The French Laundry.
