Default I\'m going to play in my first casino tourney...first time playing live

A local casino has a $10 MTT once a week and I am going to be playing in it. I have read posts on playing live so I think I will be fine on that end of it and I think this is a better introduction for me than playing at a 3/6 table as the most I can loose is 10 bucks. The question i have is regarding re-buys.

This tournament has $5 re-buys. I don't understand what this means. I think it means that you can re-buy a certain amount of chips up to a pre determined blind level if your stack size is below a certain amount before that point. Is this correct? Generally can you only re-buy once? If you do re-buy do you do so from the dealer? Any help would be appreciated.

Re-buys tournaments can follow many different formats. Most re-buys are only allowed once you run out of chips. If you do run out then you may re-buy from the dealer or a floor person. Some tournaments that allow re-buys also offer add-ons. If you fall below a predetermined amount of chips you may add additional chips for a certain amount of money. Some of the most popular types of re-buys are as follow:

1) You may re-buy 1 time upon going broke within "x" amount of time or rounds.
2) You may re-buy unlimited times upon going broke within "x" amount of time or rounds.
3) You may re-buy unlimited times upon going broke within "x" amount of time or rounds and add-on at the end of the re-buy time period if you're below "x" amount of chips.

In addition, when and how much should I tip the dealer?

You only "need" to tip if you finish in the money. There are, I believe, some standard percentages but I'm not sure what they are exactly.

The tourneys have 66 players in them. Generally speaking, do the top 20% make it to the money? I guess every casino is different.

I think about 3-5% is standard. They may tell you that 5% is the low end of the tipping scale, but AFAICT that's just wishful thinking.

66 players is likely to just pay the final table of 9 and could be worse.

Examples:
The Orleans paid final 10 with over 200, although I refuse to play there anymore due to that very low payout schedule.

Sahara's with anywhere from 150-200 paid top 11, very top heavy, and again for someone interested in payouts, pretty slim.

Tipping wise, I only tip if I win (including chopping) but only then if it's a fair take.
Say you take 10th for $40, too small for a tip, IMHO.
Within your fees to play in it, is suppose to be pay for the house and dealers.

I'd feel differently in a major event with a huge win but then again, the % should go down, if I recall Fossilman tipped 40G's when he won the WSOP 2004 main event, and ppl whined, I would have tipped 18,000 so.... I earned it, I can do what I friggin please.

Or like 'Stars and Foxwoods do it, you can rebuy when you have X chips or less, and X=starting stack (thus you rebuy immediately upon sitting down), and then you can do a single add-on at the end of the rebuy period regardless of how many chips you have.
