Overplayed Set?
Live 3/6 Game at Trump in Gary, IN. This is a kill pot, so the stakes are 6/12. I have about $200.
I've got a tight image, since I've folded for about an hour. I'm dealt 33 on the button. UTG calls, 4 other players call, I call, the blinds call. 8 players, 8 SB. Flop comes Q 5 3 r. UTG bets, 1 call, I raise. UTG reraises, 1 fold, I cap. UTG calls. At this point, I can see that UTG only has about 2 BB left in front of him. 2 players, 8.5 BB. Turn: A r. UTG bets, I raise, UTG 3-bets. He only has $4 left, so I say "put the rest in." Whadya think? |

[ QUOTE ] Overplayed Set? [/ QUOTE ] No. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah this is correct although it is closer then it seems. Live games are usually more passive then online ones. Kill pots can also generate a lot of scared play if people are mentally prepared to play 3/6 and not 6/12. Having said that, I don't really see how he isn't going all-in here. Brad |

Re: Overplayed Set?
Assuming UTG would PFR with QQ or AA, that only leaves 55 (or the insanely unlikely 24) that you're behind. I don't see how you could stop raising under those circumstances.

Re: Overplayed Set?
He would most likely have raised preflop with any good pocket pair, in this case AA, KK, QQ. He would have kept raising you with AA, KK, or QQ throughout the hand, unless he was extreme slow playing.
I would say that you didn't overplay it. One thing, which would be a judgement call based on his earlier playing; would he have called, or raised, preflop with 55? |

Re: Overplayed Set?
i really like it. play the set fast that's all you can do. with his short stack he might have committed with top pair or something of that sort. you are only behind to a higher set or 24. get you $$$ in. nicely played imo.

Re: Overplayed Set?
A tricky player here could be limping AA, KK or QQ here in a kill pot. If the player was fairly tight, meaning even if they see a lot of flops they did not see a lot of showdowns without a good/winning hand, then I would think they are sitting on AA, KK or QQ.
However since the player was low on chips and this is 3/6 and not 10/20 or 20/40, the chances of them holding any of these three is less likely. My guess is that he tabled AQ, KQ and just went for it with the last of his chips hopeful to rank a big kill pot. |

Re: Overplayed Set?
You found someone racking off. It would be darned impolite not to help him out by taking those burdensome chips from him. The poor guy's trying to go home -- let him.
AQ plays just like this, and I see it as the most likely hand. You can't sweat 55, and there's not enough money left in front of him NOT to put him all in. YHIG. Play it. |
