Do you ever use poker terminology in reference to other things?
My friend had a return and asked me if they would take it back at Target and I replied, "I'm not sure if they're as loose as Wal-Mart, but might as well give it a shot."
The other day as I opened up the gate to my apartment some car snuck in behind me as the gates closed. I say to the passenger, "I hate it when people limp in behind me." I didn't even realise I said limp until he pointed it out to me. Am I the only one who does this? |

I drop the (+EV | -EV) lines once in a while.

with other poker playing friends, I use this terminology a lot. But it's a joke, not seriously. I never use it with just random other people/friends.

Re: Do you ever use poker terminology in reference to other things?
Yeah.... +EV and -EV I've dropped before.
Sometimes just a general 'sample-size' line. Like when the Memphis Grizzlies were 0-2 in games that my GF and I had attended together. She said that if they lost again when we went then we would have to stop going because she really wanted to see them make the playoffs. I gave some sort of 'insufficient sample-size to draw meaningful conclusion' line. |

I usually drop a "nice hand" when a friend tells me about something they have recently done.

Re: Do you ever use poker terminology in reference to other things?
I explained to a friend why my winning a 20 race match in Mario Kart Double Dash's Baby Park didn't mean anything due to the insane variance that track has, and how we'd need to run 100 races to get any sort of idea.
When he tries to convince me green shells in Super Mario Kart are rigged to hit players more often I began shouting ONLINE POKER IS RIGGED as well. |

Re: Do you ever use poker terminology in reference to other things?
When I was recently interviewing for a job, I answered a question about problem solving with a mention of EV.
I got an offer the next day. |

Re: Do you ever use poker terminology in reference to other things?
I often drop things like this...
"Get the burger, it's the nuts." A lot of the time my friends know what I'm talking about, too. Thank you, ESPN |
