Default What are the risks... (Bankroll related)

As I understand it, you should have approx. 300 Big Bets worth of bankroll for the limits you play to help ride out any large downswings.

How risky is it to play with only 200 BBs? I am a successful 0.5/1 PP player ( I should hope so ) who has been dabbling in 1/2 the last couple of nights.

My only concern is my BR is only $400 dollars. My plan is to build to about $600 and withdrawl $500 to start bonus whoring other sites.

How concerned should I be playing 1/2 with only 200 BBs?

If you're a winning player I don't think it's too much of a risk. It sounds like you haven't played 1/2 enough to know if you can beat that game, though.

If you're just looking to get to $600 I don't think you'll make it much faster at 1/2 even if you're a winning player, and obviously there's a chance you're not and will lose.

If you want to move up to improve your game and don't mind the higher chance of going broke, go for it. But if you just want to make a quick $200 I'd slog it out at .50/1.00.

Here's what I did. (am doing)

I've been clearing a lot of bonus' lately and sometimes it's hard to find 4+ .50/1 tables, and clearing bonus at these limits takes forever. So if at a certain point in time i was up about $40 in that particular session I would buy-in at 20BB at a 1/2 table, even though I don't have the bankroll for it. If at any point I went bust, I just looked for another .5/1 table to join. When I was up another buy-in, I would join another. Now that I have the BR for 1/2 I just half and half it all the time to acclimate myself until I am sure I am ready for the limit.

Hope this helps.

I've been playing at 1/2 tables with only 150 BB lately and have been surviving just fine after 1000 hands. Sure you do see some big swings but as they say - if you're a good player you should be fine.

200BB is okay. It should last you atleast 5k hands unless you hit a really bad swing. If you lose it all, then drop back to .5/1 and build up atleast 300BB before moving up again.

200bb's is fine for an occasional shot at a higher level, but dont make it your regular game until your roll is a bit larger.

Thanks for all the good advice everyone. The strange thing is, over the 250 hands I have played at 1/2, my BB/100 is about 11. Granted my sample size is very very small, and that is more than likely not a sustainable rate, but that is much much better than I was doing at 0.5/1.

I built my roll up from $50 by winning a couple of $5 SnGs and then a couple of $10 & $20 SnGs. I seem to do well at the $20 2 table SnGs (7 ITM finishes in 11 tries, 2 first place) Maybe that would be a better route to go?

After 11,000 hands at 1/2 I am up 123 BB's. The biggest downswing I have had in this time is 107 BB's. You only have a slight chance of going broke.

And this is on Paradise with regular 25-30% table flop seen percentages at the 1/2. The risk should be even less at Party.

Party's rake is far more imposing, in the general vicinity of 3BB/100 paradise runs about 70% of that

if you are willing to drop if you get hit 50-75BB then take shots

Paradise takes out .25 for every $5. How much does Party rake?
