Finally at 15/30... A9s in CO... call, call, call, call
After playing around half a year at 6-max tables at both 5/10 and 10/20, I finally decided to move up to 15/30. I was pretty decent at the full ring tables but this was at the lower limits. After this much time of, my game is pretty rusty.
Since I haven't played a lot of hands at this limit and this was one of the first hands at this table, I don't have any reads except that MP1 and MP2 are very bad players. Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (7 handed) Preflop: Guido is CO with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. UTG raises, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, Guido calls, 1 fold, SB calls, BB calls. Fold or call getting 16:1 AND closing the action? Could probly raise here. Anyone with a piece will normally stay getting 8:1.

Does the fact that the board paired, influence your decision? Or don't you like going for overcalls...
Thanks, Guido |

Re: Finally at 15/30... A9s in CO... call, call, call, call
I think a raise is probably good here. At best you get two overcalls, on average you're probably getting one. A raise will almost certainly get you one more from the bettor, and you may get a cold-caller. On average, I think a little more money goes in with a raise. If the pot were five-handed instead of four or if there were more scary things on the board suggesting you might be beat I would vote for calling, but raising seems the play here.

Yeah but is this a standard cold call preflop?

Re: Finally at 15/30... A9s in CO... call, call, call, call
Seems close but I like calling better. You might get one, or even two overcalls, and I hate to have to pay off a three bet, which you would obviously have to. He is showing a lot of strength firing at that river in a four way pot. I do think you probably have the best hand, but I dont think that is reason enough to raise here.

Re: Finally at 15/30... A9s in CO... call, call, call, call
I agree. I made no comment on the pre-flop call. It depends on game positions, but I have to think at any reasonable 15/30 that this should be a pre-flop fold. It is not all that likely that your A outs will be good; you are likely to be dominated; top-pair top kicker will be in huge reverse-implied odds trouble; the nut flush combo is not enough to play on. Thoughts?

Gotta raise the river.
Flop call is fine getting 16:1 and closing the action. |

Re: Finally at 15/30... A9s in CO... call, call, call, call
MP2 doesn't look like he's got a set of tens or sixes. He might have a set of fours turned into a boat but if he's terrible I think you can raise the river and come out ahead. Fear the boat? If there is no reason, then I assume it's not there.
Otherwise I like the play. |
