Default QTip\'s Pooh Bah Paper (long - please work links)

A couple of posts premature, but I won’t be around tomorrow and wrote this today…so it’s a bit premature…consider it a capstone paper.

In keeping with the recent tradition of posting a pooh bah graduate dissertation, I submit the following.

What a great time I’ve had here at 2+2. I’ve learned an incredible amount here and my game has improved by leaps and bounds in a very short amount of time by gleaning info and experience from you all. I’ll really appreciate the detailed explanations when I’m asking questions. I’ve always maintained the status of student here, and having 1600 which consist of 1598 posts saying “Thanks for the help, I suck” certainly doesn’t change that (The other 2 were “Hi, I’m Qtip”). I echo the words of Meep’s apparent unaware induction to pooh bah status on 03/15 by saying:

“Holy crap.

Someone reset that, I don't know [censored] about poker, and I don't want people thinking I do! “

If you want some entertainment, check out my first post (specifically look at bisonbison’s response for true enjoyment) – please respect my courage to endure amazing embarrassment by linking to this thread – and for the record, I really did go on that rush.

For the rest of the story, check out my second attempt to tap into the SS forum (which surprisingly was only a month and a half ago).

Semi-pro attempt update: As I mentioned in my re-introduction post, I’ve been playing semi-pro since January 1st. We had our second child and my wife has been staying home. So far, this has gone even better than I hoped (currently beating 3/6 for 5.1 BB/100 really helps – yeah…waiting for the hammer to fall). I’m very organized with my BR management and withdraw a given number of BBs per weak. I play 12-18 hours a week and treat it exactly like a part-time job. I tell my wife “Honey, got to get to work. They told me last time if I’m late again, they’re going to fire me!”

What I’ve done as I’ve gone along over my huge (3 month) and glorious 2+2 poster career, is add posts to my favorites as I’ve learned important concepts. I’ve decided to go through these favorite posts, as a part of my graduation here (in order of date learned, not importance – not that I would know the difference anyway) Perhaps this list will give others a head start on some of these topics...

Davelin helps me to finally understand SSHE wait until turn to protect “forgo the flop raise” statement

DMBFan helps me understand estimating when I’m good and pot odds at showdown

Davelin helps me to understand flush draw value on a paired board

I learn about how to develop a postflop plan

Don’t post the blind if you’re not the CO..seriously, I was posting even UTG (Man this is embarassing)

FatNicky, DMBFan, Chief and SpyDog help me understand an important concept

from a misunderstanding in TOP (I really liked this one)

Nate tha’ Grate encourages gets me to review my PF play

Seating at a table - very valuable

Monty Cantsin encourages me to learn more about theory instead of He told me to

I learn some strategy playing HU with a big pair

Again, Entity, Joshua and RedEye, help me with HU play

Another thinking ahead strategy I liked from Mr Pink

Entity shares some light on more than one way to win a hand

Bob T throws out a beautiful line and gets me to start thinking more about PF play not just being about the cards…this has been invaluable. “I think limping is playing the cards, raising is playing the game.”

I learn about the wonderful “Clarkmeister Theorem” – man has this been good to me

Goodguy_1 has some great comments about the 3/6 game compared to 2/4

I learn about checking the turn after getting more outs

Bob T has another gem for me about moving up in limits

SpyDog gives me something to take notes on

ErrantNight sheds some light on why raising from CO is better than raising for the button with some hands

Mr Pink, Ed and The Dude let me know that I don’t have to know if my hand is good or not

Chief and Evan shed some light on playing HU in a very small pot

And…oh yeah…we’re not all about business…Here’s two spots where I laughed so hard I cried

NolanFan, Entity and DMBFan Reaching for the pot while emphatically saying I've got the Queen

John Nickle (man he’s funny) and the “bad” player

OK…enough is enough…thanks again…

Let's let the old one die and just use this one....thanks.

I wantd to get this to work so that some newer players could learn some of these concepts earlier on...
