Someone could live in a predominantly white area in a diverse city and see very few minorities. Like wise, someone could live in a diverse section of a non diverse city and think they live in a diverse town. In a stats class I took about a year ago my stats teacher asked the class to try and guess what the % of minorities in the student body. People guessed Asians were the largest minority(which they were), but they said they probably made up 30% of the student body, however in actuality Asians made up about 14%(or some figure close to that) of the student body. Its all about perspective I suppose. |
