Re: Favorite table fabric
question about the "polysuede"
I found some stuff called ultrasuede, and I know I have seen other folks mention this as well. to those who have used either, does if have a somewhat rough (albeit, finely so) texture? if this is the same stuff, does it catch/flip cards at all? doc |

Other:
Jo-Ann Fabric's moleskin. Awesome fabric for playing surface. Ton of colors to choose from. |

Re: Favorite table fabric
is this like the stuff you put in the back of a new pair of shoes to keep them from blistering a heel?
when is mole-hunting season anyway? really though, do you need to (should you?) scotchguard it? doc |

Re: Favorite table fabric
It is a clothing fabric. I have not used scotchguard because I don't allow drinks on the table anyway. From what I have read from others is that it cleans up very well without scotchguard. Go here and search for moleskin for other reports. http://www.scottkeen.com/forum/index.php Price is usually about $10/yd but Jo-ann's always had 40-50% off coupons.

Re: Favorite table fabric
I have used polysuede
I highly recommend it for these reasons: 1 - much cheaper than professional billiard cloth (obviously go for the pro stuff if you can afford it) 2 - easily available locally 3 - durable and washable (especially polysuede used for outer clothing, as it can come in different weights) the surface is a soft smooth feel to the touch but not as soft as, say, velvet (too soft) and not stretchy (good because it will last longer) to answer your question: no, it does not catch cards cards glide nicely. but, the fabric has enough friction so the cards stop on the table. mainly, don't buy a fabric that with alot of pile. pile is when alot of the fabric stands up against the main weave. Think of a carpet. If you used a shaggy carpet it will pil alot (pil is when it gets little balls all over). It will also show the wear faster. Compared to a smooth carpet that won't pil. Now apply that analogy to fabric for card playing. So don't use things like felt that will pil. cheers, The Real Macoy |
