Playing a draw like the pros
Here's the setup:
bullswk is at seat 0 with 1475. beans1 is at seat 1 with 2540. rocflight is at seat 2 with 3650. HonzaCZ is at seat 3 with 825. chefron49 is at seat 4 with 2305. corval is at seat 5 with 1515. maneuver is at seat 6 with 1150. groovygolf is at seat 7 with 1950. santos77 is at seat 8 with 1995. vikings1 is at seat 9 with 3450. The button is at seat 7. santos77 posts the small blind of 50. vikings1 posts the big blind of 100. bullswk: -- -- beans1: -- -- rocflight: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] HonzaCZ: -- -- chefron49: -- -- corval: -- -- maneuver: -- -- groovygolf: -- -- santos77: -- -- vikings1: -- -- Pre-flop: bullswk folds. beans1 folds. rocflight raises to 300. HonzaCZ folds. chefron49 folds. corval folds. maneuver folds. groovygolf re-raises to 550. santos77 folds. vikings1 folds. rocflight calls. Flop (board: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]) What's the play here? As many of you who follow Daniel Negraneau could probably remember that he played a similar hand with Annie Duke recently at the Plaza. Do you think his play is optimal in a much less experienced field? |

Re: Playing a draw like the pros
yes. folding would be more like the pros. thinking that you're playing like daniel n is no different than all those other fish out there playing cheese b/c they're suited. it's a bad play. and calling the reraise is horrible. and playing aggressively or calling a bet after the flop is disastrous. and if you make your hand it's tragic, b/c you're gonna think that you made a smart play and bust out 7 hands later.
just my opinion. |

The simple fact that you think they are even remotely similar makes any analysis here a waste of time. |

[ QUOTE ] What's the play here? [/ QUOTE ] Fold pre-flop instead of raising out of position, and then calling a re-raise. [/ QUOTE ] I have to agree, you've opened raised with garbage in early position and gotten min re-raised from late position. I would have just folded pre flop. All right, now that you're here lets look at the situation: Rocflight 3150 groovygulf 1400 pot 1250 Now the question I would ask myself is do I want to play this pot for his last 1400? If so, then I would just set him all in. Hopefully he has AK or AQ and will lay it down. You are actually a small favorite over 2 overcards. If there were 2 diamonds on board I would for sure play it this way. If he has an overpair two dimes shows he is a 63% favorite to win the hand. You are not getting the correct price to call or bet the 1400 if he has the over pair. If you don't want to play for his last 1400 then you should check and hope he checks behind. In this case you can call if he under bets the pot, say betting something between 100 and 300. Just my .02. |

and calling the reraise is horrible. [/ QUOTE ] calling the reraise is a no brainer given the price that he's getting. (the initial raise was a little squirley) [ QUOTE ] and playing aggressively or calling a bet after the flop is disastrous. [/ QUOTE ] really? After the preflop disaster, this is a relatively easy flop to play. You can semibluff. You can check and call a bet if you have odds (and implied odds). In short, you can play poker. Don't let early mistakes make you make worse mistakes later on in the hand. |
