Good old Pokerstars lunchtime 30/60 game, which is quite a bit tougher than evening time game. Villian is brand new player that I have no notes on, and I'm new to the table.
Go easy on me. Converter doesnt seem to be working, so here goes: Hero is in MP with QhKs. Folded to me and I make it $60. SB and BB call. Flop is 8d4dKc Checked to me, I bet, SB raises to 60. BB folds, I reraise to 90. SB calls. Turn is 7h. SB Checks, I bet, he calls. River is an 8s making the board 8d 4d Kc 7h 8s He checks, I check. Here are my questions. Given a lack of read, should I have autobet the river? I guess my thinking was, he tried to get me out on the flop, but just called on the turn, meaning he either has nothing now, or was trying to win it with 2nd best pair (Which now has turned to trips). I dont want to be check raised with my TP. Was this a weak check? Nick |

I think its a clear river bet. You say that the 30-60 stars game is playing pretty tough, so I think you can assume this is a decent playing opponent.
He probably doesn't have AK since no three-bet preflop and he went into a shell after you three-bet the flop. Its unlikely that he called your raise preflop with an eight and took it all the way. I supect he has KJs-KTs, maybe KQ for a chop. Medium pairs too. Nothings for certain, but in the long run, a bet shows a profit here, at least I hope so! |

Against tougher competition I wouldn't be suprised to see AK from the SB played like this until we get to the turn. With no turn raise he is showing weakness and you can bet the river. His flop action doesn't say draw but it does seem like a weaker hand because of the way he played it. We suspect he might play an eight or a seven like this, he should play a weak king like this, and likely several pocket pairs that don't beat your K. That's to wide a range of hands to not bet.

Bet the river, I think he has a weaker king like KJ/KT a lot of the time.

Sad that I own the domain bettheriver.com
I wish I would have had 10 hands on the table before this hand. I'd have had a much better read on this player. *** SHOW DOWN *** x: shows [6h 6c] (two pair, Eights and Sixes) Chief911: shows [Qh Ks] (two pair, Kings and Eights) Chief911 collected $477 from pot |

this is a classic value bet. many players do not bet the river enough. he tested you on the flop, showed no strength since. therefore, if you bet in this situation most of the time you will show a profit.

hero pays off most of the time, player dependant, as you are now getting something in the neighborhood of 10:1 odds...will you see a c/r bluff 1 time in 10 on that river card, its close i guess, but at higher limits more likely i think.
