Giving advice/opinions (lc)
Hey everyone -
I'm always hesitant to post what I would do with hands or give my opinion out of fear of giving bad advice. Should I go ahead and say what I think anyways? Because if what I say isn't correct, a more knowledgeable person will definitely come out to correct me, right? Thanks for reading this thread with little to no content. |

[/ QUOTE ] Dont - because you giving bad advice will be corrected and then both you and the OP will see where the mistakes are. Being wrong is GOOD. THat way you get to learn too. Half my advice sucks... but the people here will take the time to explain to me WHY I am an idiot... which is great. |

Re: Giving advice/opinions (lc)
My first 3 posts all got virtually beat around by the zoo - but I learned where my mistakes were and hopefully it help me learn something in the game too.
Just reemmber that some people will be less than civil when telling you that your play was stupid. But on the other hand, it still beats losing your stack, so its a good bet. |

Don't be afraid to wrong. I don't let it stop me. I don't know have many times I've been corrected by Ghazban, TWP or others because I missed some facet of a hand. It's all good, we are here to learn.

This has been answered many times you newb! Just kidding. There's so much context in no-limit. There are standard lines, but they should be prefixed with "it depends" and not "never"/"always". That leaves room for different opinions/interpretations. If you have a non-standard line, it may be because you knew something about that hand that made you play it that way. If you make a mistake (e.g. your logic is inconsistent), so what? People will point it out and you will learn from it. We're here discussing poker. There's really no reason to flame someone for creating/adding to a discussion. |

Then I shall LEARN from my mistakes and profit. |

[/ QUOTE ] After reading what you've written here, you're light years ahead of 90% of the SSNL posters. In addition to not being afraid of being wrong, the best way for you to learn (and get bad advice corrected) is to post well thought out reasons for your advice. It can be hard to wade through the garbage on this board, but I find that a paragraph or two of explanation goes a long way to help organize your thoughts and to let others chime in with better counter-arguments, so everyone benefits.
