mirage 10-20 against a tricky coffee-houser...
it's a decent game and i have a good seat, a couple of weak semi-maniacs to my right, some solid locals on my left, and i am as far away from the tricky coffee-houser (tch) as is possible at the same table. i have been card dead as well as silent so it's not that far of a stretch to say i have a weak tight image to the opponents that matter...
see if you can put me on a hand... i raise two early limpers in mp and all fold to the tch in the bb, who calls as do the limpers... flop Qs6h8d...tch bets out, limpers fold and i call... heads up against the most dangerous player on the table... turn 6d... board Qs6h8d6d...tch bets out and i call... river 8s... board Qs6h8d6d8s...and tch bets out so fast it's almost a dark bet (sort of a twilight bet i guess, heh.) i ponder awhile, then call.... |

AQ or KQs makes the most sense.
Tough spot as he prolly bets any pair and could be full. But since he is tricky, I think you called down here with AK. He has weak-tight image of you and he will prolly bet any draw to get you off a marginal hand. He is not going to stop betting since u are "weak tight". Also, you call down with any pair above an 8 here as well. Something like TT or JJ. |

results- hillbilly makes the call
lord help me if i ever play a big Q like that in such a spot...but you're edited version second paragraph is real close...
after my river call he shows a busted flopped open-ender(79s) and my AdTd is way good. after the showdown he played his button and then got a table change... |

hi hill
i'm tired and read the responses before posting this. i don't know why. anyway, i put you on AQ. calling with AT, by the way, is not great. you must try to fold out AK or AJ, even AT. calling is just awful. this is how not to do it. |

Re: mirage 10-20 against a tricky coffee-houser...
hi ely,
too bad you're tired, i was hoping for an epic ely responce on this one... on what street is the call awful? i'm getting 9-1 on the flop to peel one off with likely 6 pair outs as well as backdoor nut flush and straight draws...closing the action as well. on the turn i pick up the nut flush draw to go with said pair outs headsup and the pot is laying me 6-1. on the river the pot is laying me 8-1 to snap off the bluff and snap i did. rest assured i am not a calling station, in fact i fold too much, this i'm sure. if i had any stones i would have raised the turn. one step at a time i quess... |

I was wondering why you didn't raise the flop against a tricky player who would just as likely be betting a draw or an ace as he would be a pair or better.

its stuff like this that makes me wonder if i should read ALL of the replies in a thread before responding or just do as i do now and respond whenever i see something i'd like to respond to even though i haven't checked what others have said (unless of course its the first post i'm responding to and want to respond without reading the other opinions)...
in any case, well said schmed. -Barron |

[/ QUOTE ] in the case you quoted and you're against this tricky guy you should RAISE the flop because he may check and give you a free card so you don't have to take 6:1, you'll get infinite odds on the check. further, it may reduce his trickiness later on in the hand. even against these people you need to establish control with your position. -Barron |
