I got lucky, but did I play badly?
5/10 6-max at Party. Folded to me on the button with A5o, I raise. SB 3-bets, BB coldcalls, I call. 3 to the flop-

How bad was this play. I'll post my thoughts later. |

Were you planning on calling turn and the river if you didn't improve?

Re: I got lucky, but did I play badly?
Hi Kramer,
No reads on either of the players in this hand? Short-handed play is more about playing the players rather than the cards IMO, and reads are extremely important. Assuming typical players, I hate the Flop raise. Are you hoping that SB has AK/AQ and BB completely whiffed? I understand that your Button raise looks like a steal raise, and so the SB could be 3-betting you with a wide range of hands, but this is just not a good Flop for you. You're drawing pretty thin at most SB 3-betting hands. AA-77, AJ, AT, etc. And while you may be ahead of the SB, there's still the BB who just called 2 bets pre-Flop and another on the Flop. I think you're usually looking at a 5 out'er, or may be slightly ahead. I would call, and see what the Turn brings. If the SB bets again on a blank Turn and the BB calls again, I would fold. If the SB bets again and the BB folds, I would have to decide what to do with my hand based on how loose the SB is with 3 bets, and how zealously he defends his blinds. -Brian |
