Hi all
Was playing at Party in a 1/2 game when I received a pair of 9's in the small blind. One limper to me in LP and I raise from the small blind, the big blind then makes it 3 bets and myself and LP both call. I lost that hand as it turned out the big blind had a pair of jacks but I was berated by one player on chat who insisted my raise from the small blind was incorrect. I didn't respond but it did make me think. Was I right in raising and was calling the better option? Cheers Adam |

You raise from the SB to try and knock out the BB, getting it heads-up with the LP. I think that’s a good thing. Of course, if BB always defends then maybe a call is bettor.

One limper and I'm in the SB w/99 I'd raise and try to face the limper heads up. You just need to play it well postflop, which from the sounds of this hand, you may have misplayed it.

I would say the opposite is true. If you're going to call preflop with what figures to be the best hand, especially in a shorthanded situation, you need to play it very well. Players who play poorly after the flop need every preflop edge they can get. |

Jeez are you tough lately, Joe. He didn't tell us any of the post flop action. Not even a little bit. What makes you think he misplayed it? |

Just like I was right on in the southerndog's 'Mohegan/Foxwoods post'. You still haven't figured it out yet have you?!? Not cause of the cards. After reading some books and a bunch of posts on here, I realize it wasn't the cards. I was in there "just to see the flop" etc. Calling station. I want to go back to see what I've learned. Can't gauge anything off of home games, and too scared of starting a bad habit by playing on line. [/ QUOTE ] |

With one limper and having 99 in the Sb I would raise 110% of the but you need to explain how the rest of the hand went down .99s v JJ .oh well it happens.

I like this play. You probably are ahead of the limper right now, you might knock out the big blind, and your opponents probably are going to misread your hand so they are likely to fold when they should continue.

Only time I might not is if I knew the LP limper would only limp here with AA or KK. The guy doing the berating is an idiot; he is the juice in a juicy game. Stu |
