All In w/ a draw
Playing a live 30 dollar buy in NLHE tourney. 100 dollars in chips and everyone is about even. 4 hands in im BB w/ A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Four callers to be including UTG and SB. I raise the blind 25. UTG and SB call. Flop comes 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB checks, I bet 30 of my 75 left. UTG folds and SB raises me all in. I think for a while and finally come to the conclusion that he has tens or a lesser draw, because i didnt think anyone could possible call away 1/4 of their stack w/ any six. So i think that any ace or king is an out as well.
I call and he turns over A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Who makes this call? |

The turn is the 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and the river falls the K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
I get up and walk away, baffled. |

Re: All In w/ a draw
as an aside, if you're going to separate results from the question part of your post, put the opponent's hand into the second post.
i think i call here, but it's a somewhat close decision, so it would depend on my table feel. i do know that if i was at the table, my instinct would tell me the guy is sitting on A6s. if i think the guy is passive enough to not raise preflop on 66 or TT (although most beginning players believe that pocket pairs are indestructible), that might be enough to swing it to a fold. up against A6, my flush draw is about 30% to win, and the pot is laying me at least 3:1, depending on the blinds. also, in this situation i would rather double up or quit and get into a good sidegame. if your goal is to last longer, this is a fold. |

Re: All In w/ a draw
Hi JakeO,
What were the blinds? This info is critical. Assuming that they were 1 and 2, or something like that, his call is bad. If they were any bigger, his action is irrelevant, as you're all in a big crapshoot. There are tourneys like this in casinos all over, and their goal is to get players in the room, not to offer a tourney that will test skill. You had better get used to taking beats like this, as these tourneys will be full of them. Best of luck. |
