Default A hand that I didnt realize

I sucked out on majorly. 2/4 table.

Im in 3rd position with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Preflop:
UTG calls, fold, I raise (good/bad?), all fold, BB raises, UTG folds, I call (good/bad?)

Flop: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
He checks, I bet (good/bad?), he calls. (18 sb in pot)

Turn: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
He checks, I bet (g/b?), he raises..., I call (g/b?) (8.5 bb in pot)

River: J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
He bets, I raise, he reraises, I call (I guess my reasoning was he had aq also and we were gonna chop so I stopped. I know I should have capped.)

Showdown:
He has 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and I take the 14 BB pot.
Now I put this hand in pokerlyzer....
I was 6:1 after the flop.
I was 10:1 underdog after the turn card.
Should I have been betting into him? Should I have called/raised/folded when he raised me on the turn?
Or should I have folded preflop...
Thanks in advance,
JD

You should have definitely checked the turn and 4-bet the river.

johnd192,

Preflop: Good raise and call of reraise.

Flop: Good bet. It's headsup and he checked so take a shot. If he calls he will probably check to you on the turn. If he raises let your hand go.

Turn: Take the free card. When he raises you have a clear fold, he has two pair or a set. He would have bet top pair on the flop.

River: Of course cap it. There is no way you can put him on AQ after he checkraised the turn. Your hand is well disguised because he's thinking, "No way would he call the turn with AQ!".

At 10:1 you definitely shouldn't be folding to a flop check-raise.

Default Backing into the correct play..almost

John,

Preflop: UTG calls, fold, I raise (good/bad?), all fold, BB raises, UTG folds, I call (good/badGood

He checks, I bet (good/bad?), he calls. (18 sb in pot) Looks good so far.

He checks, I bet (g/b?), he raises..., I call (g/b?) (8.5 bb in pot) He checkraised you with a set that he flopped. From his betting pattern you should have picked that up. He limped utg with 8's and flopped a set. He played it like a set of 8's.Of course you didn't know that, or you wouldnt have drawn to a 11.5:1 shot.

He bets, I raise, he reraises, I call (I guess my reasoning was he had aq also and we were gonna chop so I stopped. I know I should have capped.) Very bad. You should have kept raising.

Michael

Note that UTG folded preflop, and this was the BB. I actually would have figured him for Kings since not many will 3-bet with 88 from the BB, but same difference.
