Could i have played this hand worse?
I have not played manyhands at this table, so no reads yet.
Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 10 handed) pokerhand.org hand converter CO ($72.35) Button ($99.50) SB ($223.85) BB ($91.50) UTG ($108.03) Hero ($99) UTG+2 ($122.90) MP1 ($126.70) MP2 ($96.50) MP3 ($94.50) Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.50. 1 fold, Hero calls $1, 5 folds, Button raises to $4, SB (poster) calls $3.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $3. Flop: ($13) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players) On the flop i led out by betting 10$, and folding(?????) to a raise to 30. Arghh.... Why did i call preflop with 87suited in early position? Anyway here i am on the flop with with a decent hit. What is my best line? Off course betting and folding(????) is horrble. I should just go ahead and push when i get raised. I cannot be fair behind(unless my opponent hit a set). But what is my plan for the turn if i simply get called on the flop? Is a better line simply to checkraise all in on the flop? |

Re: Could i have played this hand worse?
I'd probably call the raise, and check/call 2/3 PSB an unimproved turn. You have 5 outs to 2-pair or better as well as 9 outs to a flush, and a backdoor gutshot straight good for maybe half an out, which is 14.5 outs. If SB comes along to the raise (unlikely) then I'll call a PSB on the turn.
Edit: Don't c/r all-in unless you think there's a really good chance of him folding. |

Re: Could i have played this hand worse?
limp/calling 87s UTG is not so hot if you ask me. You got one of the best flops you can get so bet/3bet all-in would be my play. You're only screwed if he has JJ and it gives you a great image to push on a draw (despite being a small favorite against an overpair that doesn't contain a diamond).

Re: Could i have played this hand worse?
Ok, you bet/3bet all in on this flop, and get called.
So if i understand you correctly this is what you will use the image from this hand for: Later hand same action. This time you hold 77( i guess limping with 77 is ok, unless the table is very aggresive?) I guess you choose the same line here? Or your opponent just calls your flop bet figureing he can push you off your hand on a nondiamond turn, but you got a little suprise for him? |

Re: Could i have played this hand worse?
The benefits of an image play are that the bad players don't realize that you are actually a slight mathematical favorite against black AA. They just see that you played a draw very aggressively and will erroneously conclude that you are on a draw in the future when you make an aggressive play like this. If showing this hand down gets you a call from middle pair later when you're holding top set (or even just top pair), you are very happy. You made a slightly +EV play that enabled you to make a hugely +EV play later.
