Why not raise the flop for both protection and to see where we stand against the pf 3-bettor?

The hand may have played out differently. Considering how big the pot already is on the flop, I'd want to anything within my power to maximize my chances to win it.

That's why we are waiting for the turn to protect, our equity goes way way up assuming no scare cards come (And then we have 4 outs to a boat) and their odds go way way down. A raise on the flop gives villains 10-1 to call it.

Plus there's the extra value of the BB vs SB raise.

Ah, good points. Now that I think about it, I don't think that I raise to protect on the turn enough. I must be too eager of a beaver.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I think a bigger problem for most posters is doing it too much.
