Bankroll requirement for moving up?
I currently play 25NL and don't have plans on moving up for a while - but I was curious as to what my BR should be to cover me moving up to the 50NL games.
10 buyins? 20? Thanks! |

Re: Bankroll requirement for moving up?
This is from the FAQ post stuck at the top of the forum. It's a good post. Check it out.
[ QUOTE ] Q: What's the proper bankroll for each limit? A: General consensus is that a player should keep at least 20 buyins for each limit he's playing. Excluding poor beginner play, bad bankroll management is the biggest reason that new players go bust. Do yourself a favor and only play in games you can afford. Limit: $0.01/$0.02 | Needed: $40 ($100 on Stars) Limit: $0.05/$0.10 | Needed: $200 Limit: $0.10/$0.25 | Needed: $500 Limit: $0.25/$0.50 | Needed: $1000 Limit: $0.50/$1.00 | Needed: $2000 Limit: $1.00/$2.00 | Needed: $4000 Limit: $2.00/$4.00 | Needed: $8000 [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Bankroll requirement for moving up?
I believe its in the FAQ but typical approach is 20 buyins although some guys here take shots at higher limits when they have 10 of the higher limit buyin.

Re: Bankroll requirement for moving up?
20 buy-ins is the usual number given
Many inexperienced players take shots with less, can't admit to being outclassed and go bust rather than drop down - if you are disciplined enough (and able to cope emotionally with building back up again from the level below) then you can take a shot with 10+ but it isn't recommended as (unless you'cve already cashed out winnings for some reason) you won't have enough experience behind you at the level below to know if you are truly beating it or just running hot. One alternative is to move up but buy-in for 50% until your roll builds. Personally I am very conservative and require 40x buy-in before I go up. This is because when I first tried NL I ran hot at the Party $25's, won 30 buy-ins in 2 weeks and then proceeded to lose 28 of them over the next 2 months..so I know 28 buy-in downswings do happen espcecially when you aren't as good as you think you are.. |
