Small Blind Suited Junk
I am SB, I got J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
.5/1 Limit. Preflop: 2 limps, I complete, BB checks. Flop:J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img](2 dollars in the middle) I bet out, BB folds, First limper who limped from middle position raises me, second limper folds, I call(bad?). Turn:3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img](4 in the middle) I bet out, Limper raises me, I fold. For some reason I think I screwed this up pretty badly. I just dont know where or how because I am not very good at this game. What do you guys think? |

If you thought you were ahead enough to bet the turn, why not 3bet the flop?

Also if I bet 3 bet the flop how do I play the rest of the hand? Say he caps, do I bet out? Or if he just calls and I bet out and he raises do I call him down? |

Re: Small Blind Suited Junk
First, you don't suck. You may be learning the game, but that's way different than sucking. Quit beating yourself up if you want to get better.
Betting the flop was good. Calling wasn't bad. If you 3-bet the flop and get raised, I'd go into c/c mode. If villian calls flop 3-bet, I'm pushing the rest of the way. I think you've got the best hand often enough to push this hand. |

Betting the flop was good. The call was good.
Check call from there. You keep telling us you're no good at poker, yet you play .50/1? Move down and learn all the basics, and read books |

Also I like the check call line, the table was sort of tightish, I think a check call down was probably in order. The 3 bet flop thing is also interesting, I think im getting the hang of it, seems betting the flop heavily is just used to get info. |

Re: Small Blind Suited Junk
As another relatively newbie, I'm confused why you wouldn't have folded the flop. Preflop, you had to be hoping to flop a flush draw (8:1 odds). Reasonable to complete your SB for that. But when that flop came, why not cut the losses and run? What outs are there at that point for the J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] that give reasonable odds? Even drawing a jack on the turn isn't that strong of a hand. 3 outs, 2 positions, 12% chance to pull a possible winner. This seems like the kind of play that although I might squeak out a tiny statistical gain over the long-haul, it's not really worth my neurons when I could be moving on to another table with a higher likelihood of yielding results (assuming I'm multitabling).

I'm confused why you wouldn't have folded the flop. [/ QUOTE ] Because Hero has the best hand a lot of the time, some outs to improve to the best hand, and a number of hidden outs to split if he's behind. |

Re: Small Blind Suited Junk
Doh! My mistake. I missed the jack in the flop somehow. Agreed that I certainly wouldn't not fold the flop holding top pair. 16% chance for a flush on this one. Jacks might stand on their own. I would've played this exactly as posted except I would've called down on the river. No reason to fold when, to all evidence, you're ahead.

Re: Small Blind Suited Junk
YOu are correct to cap on the flop since it is only 1 bet back to you, but I would check on the turn.
