AQo - 20+2 - PS - 180 players
I like this new tournament, you can play 3 hours or so and it's done and you still get a big payoff at the end (if I get there).
I have 8.5k, which is a little under average (12k) but average at the table. Blinds 300-600 a50. Pot is 1300 with the blinds. Dealt AQo on the button (7 handed). 22 players out of 180, 18 paid. Reads : Vilain has not won a hand in last 20 hands (looked at hand history after his raise), I don't think he played any hands in this time (not 100% sure) but I see him as tight. I have played a couple hands...not too many but may not seem very tight but not loose either. Vilain is UTG+1 with 5500 chips - raise to 2200. Folded to me on the button. Should I check - call - fold? Given your move, what do you do on the flop K-J-7r? Vilain bets 2000k (1500 left behind) The turn wwas a nothing 2 I think... I'll give my thoughts on the next post. |

Re: AQo - 20+2 - PS - 180 players
I thought that he must have a good hand, but it could be worse than my AQ (pp) or A10-AJ. Also AK was a possibility (of course).
QQ-AA was not very likely because this bet was more than 3xBB which was usual at the table, it looked to me like he wanted to take the blinds using his image with a decent hand. I raise all-in to make him fold (was it possible for him to fold?). He called me with AK. I lost and down to 3000. Calling was not a good option because he would likely push any low flop with hands I would beat, and I would not see the turn and river if he has a PP. I thought about folding but thought this was too tight. Am I right? By the way, the very next hand, I get A6o on the CO and it's folded to me. I went all-in to get the blinds and maybe be called by a worse hand like KJ thinking that I'm on tilt... How about this play? I ended-up against AK and lost again! Finished 22 with no money... |

Re: AQo - 20+2 - PS - 180 players
Usually when I see AQ and I have 14xBB I'm looking to get money in the pot, so I would probably push after his preflop raise. Are you saying you called here? Because if so, that's really the worst thing you can do. You will only hit the flop 1 time in 3 and a decent opponent is pushing any flop with whatever he raised with. Calling also opens you up to a squeeze play from someone behind you, though given stack sizes it is unlikely someone would do that without a pretty good hand.
Push or fold preflop. I'd probably push and yell at myself afterwards, but still do it again the next time. |

Re: AQo - 20+2 - PS - 180 players
I did push and lost vs AK...AJ and A10 were esay fold for me. AK was easy push, as well as qq+. JJ and 10s, may have lead to a call and push any none Ace flop. 99s and lower may have been a fold for me.
I think that when I am not sure I should fold instead of going for a 50-50... But since I was not out (3k left) I thought that it is ok to gamble here and get a good stack before the bubble. |

But when they do (or you suck out ), then you have a nice stack to play with and a good shot at getting the real money. |
