Default Am I Checking the Turn too Much?

2 Loose Limpers, I Raise AQ of hearts from MP1, BB and loose lippers call. 4 to the flop for 8.5 SBs.

Flop is JT6 with with two hearts. Checked to me, I bet, only one of the loose limpers call. Villain will call with any piece of the board.

Turn is an 8, villain checks, I check.

Any reason not to take a free card? Villain will doesn't bluff to frequently and for the most part is passive.

When you say call with any piece of the board, do you mean call down, or peel and fold? This is where notes about peeling or fold to flop and turn bet stats come in handy, but usually against one player I bet again and try to win it right there.

He'll call down if he paired, fold the river with draws, maybe sometimes call with A hi. So when I bet the turn I'm going to get called a lot. Over 70% at least I'd figure.

But this is not a bad thing for your turn bet. If you're bluffing with the best hand, you love another call from a draw or ace high. I bet the turn against 1 and check behind on the river.

Hmmm. Well I would like to say bet the turn. But in this case check.

This is because if you bet he will call you most of the time with garbadge pair and then you'll lose the river. If you check, get the free card and make something you can bet then and you'll almost always get the curiosity call.

I definately think taking a free card against a call station is correct here.

if you're succeeding 30% on your turn bet here, that's huge. You're going to improve to the best hand a lot, and sometimes you already have the best hand (when villain has a draw). Plus, given the size of this pot, even if you never improved on the river taking this down almost 1/3 would be +ev (for every ten hands, you lose 7bb assuming you never put another bet in the pot and always lose/fold, and win 15bb the three times you succeed).

And since your equity is so freakin' huge here (overcards, nut flush draw) and villain will call with any part (could be calling with weak draws or weak pairs) you have a billion outs to improve, meaning you will frequently win more on the river when you improve (or if villain folds, you've gained a bet you might never have got). And of course, you can easily call a c/r. I'm not sure what's not to like about this bet, unless you think villain is always calling here and always is ahead.

edited to add: and your double gutted. c'mon. maybe your Q outs aren't clean anymore but you just picked up 6 straight outs. sure they'll be tainted sometimes (most frequently for a draw) but that just drives your equity higher.

against 1 or 2 players who are not too tricky, i bet/fold the turn and check behind on the river, i think you still have the best hand here some portion of the time
