First hand in a £50 buy-in MTT, about 300 runners, starting chips of 2000.
Hero, dealt JJ MP2 Blinds, 10/20 UTG calls 20, UTG+1 calls 20, MP1 calls 20, Hero Raises to 100, folded round to UTG who calls 100, UTG+1 calls 100, MP1 raises to 400.... I can not think of a single hand I would play like this, what range could MP1 be on?! Cheers Jon |

Maybe AA or KK? This is a tricky situation and read-dependent. I might fold.

Well i done the wimpish thing, and called... flop comes T92 with two diamonds, and he pushes.
If he has an over pair he is beating me, if he had TT or 99 he is now beating me, or if he had AK, AQ, diamonds I am now a slight underdog. So you would of thought that this would be an insta-fold.... But I didn't think, too busy trying to get comftable for the long tournament ahead. He had QQ. |

But I didn't think, too busy trying to get comftable for the long tournament ahead. He had QQ. [/ QUOTE ] That seems like a freakishly odd way to play QQ. Woulda been a tough laydown pre-flop but I might've been able to get away from it given the betting and the time into the event, make my notes and move on. Post flop, the way it was played, hard to put him on AA/KK, smells more like whiffed AK and I'd be hard pressed not to go broke...but I'm just a donkey luckbox in training. |

so i may be the minority here but limping with a monster in early position hoping to get some action is a decent but very dangerous play - the moment he comes over the top i figure im at best a coin flip and probably way behind - easy fold

He wasn't in early position, he was in middle, and limped after 2 people in front of him had already limped.
But yeah easy fold, though i have seen people do it with pocket pairs like 44, must get pissed off they are not seeing the flop for cheap. Still very, very, very stupid of me... |

People will do this as a semibluff with a limping hand. Often you can pick up the pot this way. However, if it is a planned limpraise it is probably atleast JJ or AK.
Since he came in as the 3rd limper, I would be a little suprised to see QQ. More likely AA or a bluff by a limping hand. However, some mediocre players overdo trapping and will limp with any strong hand from any position. |
