Atlantic City tips...
Hey all,
I did a search, but didn't come up with quite the quality posts I was looking for. I'm headed to Atlantic City in about a month, and have a very limited bankroll. Questions: (1) Any suggestions on the places with the lowest stakes or cheap tournaments? I don't want to play any cash game above $1/2 and would like to keep tournaments under $50 if possible. (2) Tips on good coupons or vouchers to save some money (3) Good cheap hotels to stay in (4) other basic advice (where to find the weakest players, etc) Thanks! |

Re: Atlantic City tips...
I know that the Taj has 50+15 SNGs - but the cheapest table they have is 2/4 Limit. I dont know much about the area hotels since my girlfriend has a place the next town over.

Re: Atlantic City tips...
Are you talking about 1-2 NL? If so, both Taj and Borgata have it. If you're talking limit, the lowest offered anywhere in AC is 2-4 (also at both of these places).
Weekday tournaments are generally cheap (50 or 60 I think). Check the websites of Taj, Tropicana and Borgata for details. Cheap hotels/motels are available. In AC, cheap motels should be avoided esp if they aren't chains (like Econolodge) since they might be sketchy. Try nearby Absecon (within 10 mins drive). I'd recommend Comfort Inn North (10 mins from Taj, 5 from Borg) as room rates aren't that bad. Jeff |

Re: Atlantic City tips...
Thanks for the reply.
It looks like I'll be playing the 1/2 tables almost exclusively. The tournaments don't seem to make a lot of sense with a 25% rake just to buy in and some fast-moving blinds. Only thing is I'm used to a .25/50 $25NL buyin type of home game. I'm going to have to practice with some 1/2 online to get a better feel for how all the betting goes. What's the max buyin for most of these tables? Can I sit with $100 and be comfortable? I'll definitely check out the comfort inn you recommended..... -Neil |

Re: Atlantic City tips...
Play .10-.25nl online if you want to get a feel for the 1-2nl tables.
Buy in for 1-2nl in AC is 60-300, but many people sit with $100. Its a good idea if you arent confident. |

Re: Atlantic City tips...
$1/2 NL in a real casino might be a touch harder than 10c/25c online, but probably not by much. the usual conversion rate from computer to B&M is between 5x and 10x the equivalent stakes.
if you want to reduce risk, buy in for a short stack like $40 instead of $100. this way you don't have to go into the tank for big bet decisions after the turn, and yet you can still have the best of it before and after the flop. not much for AC in terms of coupons. you can get a bunch of 2-for-1 buffet vouchers in the back of the American Casino Guide, or Casino Player magazine funbook (available to subscribers and occasionally on ebay). many casinos offer loss rebates for new slot players, anywhere from $100 up to $250. this is a risk-free opportunity to hit a small jackpot on the house. if you lose, they mail you a voucher for the difference and you cash it in on your next trip. |

At least for limit hold'em, the conversion is more like 3x to 5x (e.g. 2/4 full online playing like 6/12 to 10/20). The 1/2 NL games at Borgata are harder than .10/.25NL on Party. Yes, they're hugely profitable, and yes, you get some real clowns, but the number of intelligent bets you see is higher than on Party's NL$25. I'd say they play more like NL$50 or NL$100. |

[/ QUOTE ] Agreed! 1-2 NL plays nowhere close to a $25 NL, its btwn $50 NL and $100 NL and much closer to a $100 NL. Example, I play 5-10NL online. When down in AC I very often play 1-2 NL.......
