My usual play would be to calldown, but I recently was talking to a very good player who had been playing in some of my games and he suggested 3betting more turns, Im not sure if this is the kind of scenario he was talking about or not...

Im usually a flop checkraiser too, just mixing it up and I thought the flop looked drawy enough that he would raise lots of overcards.

i don't know, i just don't see you getting too much value out of that 3-bet. a worse K isn't really a very likely holding... there's not too many worse hands raising you on the turn. you can't fold your hand because of the gutshot, i just want to show it down cheap.

I like 2 and 3, however i an quite confident that the best line in hand one is to call the turn raise and bet/call the river.

I think the perfect situation for this is when you have a hand that you feel like must be shown down and you would like 3 or 4 total bets to go in on the turn and river but would hate 2 or 5.

This line:
-lets him off the hook if he was bluffing a draw.
-punishes a free showdown play for 3 T&R bets, not 4.
-wins only 3 bets off a worse K, not 4.

All that to save the 1 extra bet you lose getting to showdown (you don't necessarily even have to call a river bet).

I don't like it at all against a button openlimper.

You make some compelling points, but i'm not sure i agree with how often you think these instances will occur.

1.) A worse king seems very unlikely, most people fold or raise them. Could this be an exception? Of course, but still not likely
2.) If he had a flush draw, he would probably raise the flop. Anyone who open limps on the button IS NOT aggressive enough to wait until the turn to raise a flush draw to garner extra folding equity. He could have something like Q-T, but again, its just very unlikely he limps a hand that is drawing now, this reeks of a made hand.
3.) You always want to showdown top pair/decent kicker 3 handed. It's not one more bet i am worried about, it getting capped. Can we generally fold the river if this happens? Sure, but i would rather always showdown, and if we 3 bet, he probably wont call a river bet with a 9 or Q come of the time, whereas if we donk it he always will.

Like i said, you make some good points, but its not as black and white as either of us originally thought IMO.
