End of a live tournament
Hello, I would like to know your comments on this hand :
30 euros+rebuy tournament, I am head's up against a young player. First place pays 2100 euros, second 1250. The blinds are 3000/6000, with a 100 ante (pot preflop : 11 000). I have 100 000 chips, my opponent has 80 000. He is solid and has declined my deal proposal. He has been pretty agressive since we are head's up, with a few successfull steals. I have an image of an agressive player, but I have calmed down the last 4-5 hands (rags rags rags). I am dealt A8o SB (3 000). Pot=11 000. I raise to 20 000. The vilain calls. I have 80 000 left, my opponent has 60 000. Flop (pot=51 000) : Kh 2h Kd. He checks. I check behind Turn (pot=51 00) : 8s He bets 20 000. What do you think I should do ? Thanks for your help ! |

Re: End of a live tournament
headsup is extremely read dependent, but I can't imagine doing anything but pushing here... his range is huuuuuge (lots of bluffing in heads up) and a k is not very probable
you wanna push because your pair is vulnerable and you don't want to see another card |

Re: End of a live tournament
the pot's too big to fold, and you dont want to face a tougher decision on the river if it comes down Q,J,T,9, or completes the heart flush. Push here.

Re: End of a live tournament
Thanks for your answers. I actually pushed, and was beaten by 99. The problem with the all-in move is that I will drive every hand I beat (for now) out of the pot, but will be called by every hand better than mine.
What do you think of that alternate strategy : smooth calling, then calling again on 5th street if no T, J, or Q falls ? Knowing my opponent, I am quite sure he wont bet again on the river if he does not have a real hand. Another thing to consider : I remember now the real stacks ; when he bet he had 100 000 and I had 120 000, for a pot of 50 000, and that changes the math considerably. If I call there will be 90 000 in the pot, he will have 80 000 left and I will have 100 000. What do you think of my push, considering this, what do you think the correct move is ? |
