Default Top pair runs into resistance..

MP1 is a mouse after 60 hands with vpip of <10%.

Preflop: Hero is Button with K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
<font color="#CC3333">MP1 raises </font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero calls</font>,

Flop: (5.50 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">MP1 bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 3-bets</font>, Hero calls.

Obviously his three bet here worries me. Still, I think it's worth a call.

Turn: (5.75 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">MP1 bets</font>, Hero calls.

A fold? or a raise?

River: (7.75 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">MP1 bets</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 3-bets</font>, Hero....

Final Pot: 13.75 BB.

I call and get shown AK. I woulda reraised preflop if the raise came from MP.

Raise an MP raiser- even against a mouse? He had a preflop raise of less than 5% and he and the blinds were the only people who could be in the hand- I thought this was one of the rare cases where a CC was justified..

Happy to be wrong, but interested in why...

If he is a mouse, then why not respect his raise and fold preflop?

Good question. I considered it, but 2 factors- on I thought that I could be ahead of him on a number of hands, and 2 I tend (perhaps wrongly) to beleive that I can outplay people like this on the flop, especially on lowish or scary boards.

Fold preflop.

Let's say this mouse's range is AA-TT, AKs-AJs, and AK-AQ. There are 54 combinations of these hands. You're way behind AA-QQ (18 total combos) and will likely loose a lot when you hit here. You're a small dog with JJ-TT (12 combos), and unlikely to make too much when you hit. You're way behind AKs, AQs, AK, and AQ (20 combos) and again likely to lose quite a bit when you hit. AJs (4 combos) and again probably won't make much when you hit.

If you want to expand the mouse's range, what hands are you ahead of? KJs-KTs, QJs-QTs, 99?? There aren't many, and even these are pushing it with regards to likelihood.

Calling would be fine if there are a couple other players in the pot, but this is a really terrible spot to be in head's up. You're not ahead of him most of the time (if ever), and you're not going to outplay him nearly often enough to make the hand profitable.

This is a good point. Thanks.

Call the flop, call the turn, raise-call the river, admire villain's AK, and go on to the next hand.

I would also have called the turn bet. I think that your "rock" opponent had a range of AA,KK or AK at that stage. With 7 outs to 2 pair or a gut-shot, I think that you had just enough odds to call.

I would just have called MP1's river bet. Although he may have AA, his bet suggests AK to me.
