Big stack, out of position
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t6000 (8 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx
UTG+1 (t95002) MP1 (t31625) MP2 (t197332) CO (t85886) Button (t130492) Hero (t195572) BB (t60614) UTG (t66837) Preflop: Hero is SB with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 1 fold, UTG+1 raises to t16000, 1 fold, MP2 calls t16000, 2 folds, Hero... Opening raiser has not been out of line at all. Caller is loose. One of the weaker areas of my game is how to play a big stack (I am top 10 in chips out of 100). What's the concept here? Is a squeeze play automatic, or is there too much chance of the opener having a real hand? |

Re: Big stack, out of position
I think re-raising is just asking for trouble out of the SB with AQ. I would call and lead any A or Q flop if UTG+1 is interested in the pot im done. If MP2 is interested im probabaly gonna try to extract value if he is very loose.

Re: Big stack, out of position
I'd squeeze w/ position, or if the stacks were shorter so that i could go allin. but in this case, i just call and play the flop.

Re: Big stack, out of position
Man probably just fold this unless you really think UTG can make a fold here with many hands. Keep in mind the loose call from the stack in MP really gives the UTG player more of a reason to not let go of a 77 type hand in this spot. I'm pretty sure the better play here is to fold.

Re: Big stack, out of position
Shrug.
Its the classic reason that if you flop top pair you wont get paid off. But if you flop top pair and get a lot of action you are probably behind. Plus you act out of position so you aren't going to be able to win this pot very often without flopping a pair. -Jason |

The concern about pairing and still being in trouble is valid, but I think a pair wins it for me a lot of the time: I think UTG's range is something like AQ+ 99+ here with maybe an AJ/88 in there. And the pot odds are good enough that even playing for the immediate pot is enough. I also have a hard time believing that if you pair you will only get another chip if someone outflopped you. A continuation bet from UTG+1 on a Q high flop is very likely with all of his raising hands, save maybe AK, and the loose guy may overcall that cont bet with 88 or raise with KQ. I agree that this spot is a little sticky but I don't think it's too tough to navigate for this price. Everett |

Re: Big stack, out of position
I probably call, but I don't think pushing is as bad as some may think.
If we push here, UTG + 1 basically calls with any two, and MP2's folding almost all hands that he played this way with (If this isn't the case, pushing is horrible, but I think it's often the case). Thus, pushing costs us 63k to win 67k + 9k + 18k = 94k. We're getting almost 1.5:1 with AQ preflop. However, I think calling's better. I'm unsure of plan on the flop. UTG+1 is close to committed at this point, so I may check if I make top pair. Probably I just lead top pair, check/fold a whiff and play a draw by pure pot odds. |

Re: Big stack, out of position
Hero pushes.
Hero is probably ahead of UTG range of hands. Hero is definitely ahead of big stacks range. I don't see how MP2 can call this. MP2 is unlikely to be t be trapping with a big hand because he has a big stack to protect and the hand could be 3-5 ways given the small initial raise. There's about ~T50,000 in the pot, go get it. |

Hero is probably ahead of UTG range of hands. [/ QUOTE ] What range of hands are you putting an UTG raiser on? even vs a not too tight range [99+,AJs+,KQs,AQo+] hero is 40%. |
