Default More AK

Here's one.

I don't have many hands on this guy, but from the few I do have he's too loose and is probably about average as far as agressiveness goes.

Does CO have AA...more likely JJ however. AJ maybe I think you played it correctly. Turn c/r is opitimal most of the time, and you just can't fold the river when only 4 combos logically beat you. I hope he had AQ

You like check-raising the turn better than bet/3-betting?

I think check/raising and calling a 3-bet is better here. I don't like bet/3-betting because I think it puts you in an uncomfortable spot. What's he raising with on the turn that you beat? Seems like AQ and that's it.

I was thinking about similar spots earlier and I wanted to try a new "standard" line here. I would consider check/calling the 1st two streets and check/raising the river.

I actually thought about taking this approach, and also considered check-raising the turn, but I was worried he might check through a pocket pair.

I'm not sure which is better. I definetely see istewart's point about how hard the turn cap blows, though.

I feel like I've been stumbling around like a blind roofer lately. I'm barely breaking even and I'm feeling really "bleh", like I've forgotten how to handle situations I should know how to handle.

Maybe it's because I'm moving back to full games after playing shorthanded forever. I hope so anyway.

Don't you think it would be more likely that he bets the turn and checks behind on the river with a pocket pair for a free showdown?

i sincerely doubt your AK play is what's causing your downturn, FWIW. although i'm not a huge fan about how you played either AK hand you posted...

What was wrong w/ the other one?

Also, I think check-raising this flop sucks.

i think 3-betting the turn sucks.

really your only concern, aside from the distant AA and JJ concerns is that villain 3-bet lite with AJ. If you suspect he's 3-betting lite, you really should be capping this, or be prepare to go to war on the flop, IMO.

typically the reason not to cap with AK when headsup is for deception (usually v. another tag), but against an opponent who's too loose you're giving up too much preflop and putting yourself into an awkward position post.

so i would say bet that flop, as i did before, but i'd cap pre, first.

as you played it you pretty much have to 3-bet the turn because villain could properly be raising your donk bet with hands you beat. but i don't think you should set yourself up for that.
