EV of B&M vs. Internet
Does anyone believe that the EV of B&M poker surpasses that of mutli-tabling online. If so, at what stakes? I'm playing mostly 10/20 and 20/40 (3-4 tables)online and 20/40, 40/80 B&M, and for me B&M seems like a waste of time when I consider only EV. I'm disappointed by my conclusion because I really enjoy playing live. Please show me the error of my ways.

Re: EV of B&M vs. Internet
You are right, playing online is higher EV playing live if you are playing at close or similar limits, especially if you're multitabling online.
Of course if you play 2/4 online and 4-table but play 40/80 live you'd make more playing live but that just doesn't make sense. |

Re: EV of B&M vs. Internet
I actually do play 2/4 online and 40/80 live, so it is more profitable for me to play live. I don't enjoy playing online very much and never bothered to move beyond 2/4.
Also, one factor in favor of live play, at least for me, is that I can play a lot more hours live than online. 20hrs/week is about my limit online, and I can do 30-40 live. The other trouble I have with online play, is that one of the other things I am trying to do with my time is write fiction, and I found that I could not combine playing online with writing because it was way too much introversion, playing live is social. |

Re: EV of B&M vs. Internet
Yes, of course, but the stakes of the hands I would play online would be much lower.

Re: EV of B&M vs. Internet
I make $200/hr + online and only $120/hr tops when I play live. From a clearly EV standpoint, it's online all the way.

Re: EV of B&M vs. Internet
it would be more of a close call if you played 4x the stakes than you played online... ie: you play 4 tables of 1/2 online then go play 4/8 at the casino... i've only played up to 9/18 live so far, but as far as i can tell for all games that and below, the live players are just so much worse even when comparing them to 50c/1 or 1/2 on party...
also if there are no auto-shufflers the game can be slowed down quite a bit |

Re: EV of B&M vs. Internet
Well, I play at limits such that I try to make the two relatively equivalent. I play mostly 5/10 online, 4-tabling, but play 15-30 and 20-40 live. The extra hands you get per table playing online is compensated by the generally lower quality of opposition in live play. I figure I'm probably making somewhere in the neigborhood of $40-50/hr in either scenario.
Since I play live fairly rarely, I'm willing to "take shots" when I play live and put a little more of my bankroll at risk. I really enjoy playing live, so it makes sense for me. |

Re: EV of B&M vs. Internet
Well some people, such as myself, find online really boring for any length of time. Although, I play as much to enjoy myself as to make money. And, not suprisingly, I don't play for a living.
