Wheelchair Access

I was playing for several hours in a hold'em game last night on the Las Vegas Strip. There's a player in the game who is in a wheelchair. He also has some problems with his arms & hands. It's hard for him to put his chip out in a normal fashion. He puts them just a little bit in front of his cards. Annoying for some of the dealers but he does not do it out of malice. He has an obvious handicap (for lack of a more politically correct term).

It's also his birthday. He's a real nice fellow. He's a calling station. He's also inadvertently putting one particular female dealer on tilt for she has to reach a little extra hard to get his chips each time. She does not like that.

On her first down in the box, she makes a snide remark to him about the situation. Oh well, I guess she's having a bad day.

On her second down in the box she completely looses it. She starts yelling at this customer, in a wheelchair, on his birthday, while the whole room look's on in disbelief. All because she has to reach a little too far to get his chips.

The floor man comes over and tells her "what for", and the game resumes.

All the other dealers, while dealing to this individual, went out of their way to help the man with his chips, btw.

Anyway, It got me to thinking. She chose to be a dealer. Isn't helping someone like the man in the wheelchair "par for the course" of being a good dealer.
I thought this dealer was out of line (again the other dealers went out of their way to help this man).

I've never dealt though. Maybe some dealers out there could interject with a contrarian point of view or maybe they will agree that this dealer was out of line.

What say you?

What can I say other than I'm not surprised. People are assholes. Hopefully she will be fired (yeah, that'll happen). Did any of the players say anything to her? I would hope that every player at the table would stand up and tell her to [censored] off.

Everyone was kind of in shock. She only dealt another hand or two then came out of the box. She went home shortly after that.

She should have been fired on the spot and the floorman should have completed her down. She would be on my perma-stiff list too. She would have to give me a good explanation and an apology before I ever tipped her again, wherever she was dealing.

I sometimes play with a full quadriplegic. The casino gives him either the #1 or #10 seat and the dealer has to handle his cards and chips. He has a rack for his cards so the dealer can put the cards on it and only he can see them. I've never heard a complaint. Other players will help him w/ his drinks and such. I've never seen any complaints or problems. He's a nice guy too. When he goes to Las Vegas he says the Orleans accomodates him well FWIW.

She should at least of been taken out of the Box IMHO.

There were a lot of games going in the room at this point in time. It's not like she had to deal to this guy all night long.

She was kind of a b*tch when she dealt to our Friday night game(no Dynasty, not Ricki(sp). She went out of her way to help the gentleman).

Was this game at Binions, because there is a very nice man who uses a wheel chair and has limited functions. He usually plays 10-20 or 20-40 I forgot his name but I have played with him on many occassions.

Hi Dilla,

Not the Horseshoe. Think Strip (M.C.).

Binion's has a lot of great people working there IMHO. I think Binion's brush people can hang with any of the brush's in town.

btw, I've seen the floor rule in favor of a tourist against local angle shooters, a higher percentage of the time at Binions then in any other room I can remember. You have to remember that often times an angle shooter IS technically correct. I love to see shooters put in their place at Binion's. YMMV.

I'm roughly 93% sure that the guilty tarmagant's name is Lisa.
Make sure you let me point her out to you in person before you decide to go on a stiff crusade though.

There could be more then one Lisa that works there and that would suck if a sweet Lisa got confused with the shrew :-)
