PartyPoker.com commercial on WPT
Well, did you guys see the commercial? I think this is a big step for online poker. Even though the Aruba tournament and the partypoker million tournament was sort of like a commercial, I was surprised to see a an actual real commercial (I had assumed that it was illegal).

Re: PartyPoker.com commercial on WPT
I hope this doesn't bring the house down on online poker by attracting unwanted government attention. I presume it is still illegal to play so I don't see how Travel Channel can get away with running that ad. Unless they naively pretend that they are only advertising the play money aspect of it.
Yeah right. |

Re: PartyPoker.com commercial on WPT
Technically, it's not illegal to play. The game takes place on the server, not on the client. The money changes hands between accounts in Costa Rica. The server is located in a jurisdiction where it is legal to play. If push came to shove, it could be argued that making it illegal for you to log onto your computer to play poker at a server in Costa Rica would be like making it illegal to get on a plane to fly to Costa Rica to play poker.
Oh, yes, and the fact that the site also has play money games means they aren't actually advertising *real* gaming. And (I keep thinking of reasons) sports talk radio advertises off-shore sports betting sites all the time. |

Peter Ebdon (World snooker champion for you american peoples) is wearing a badge with "Casino on Net" in big letters on it this year (Pacific Poker is run by them)
Snooker players and gamblers are very closely linked as a rule, and this might well attract more people. Lori |

Re: PartyPoker.com commercial on WPT
Snooker players and gamblers are very closely linked as a rule,
This reminds me of some of the best games I've ever played. The Riv hosts (hosted?) two ten day pool tournaments back to back in May, first 8-ball, then 9-ball. 8-ball players were a bit loose, 9-ball players were wild men. It has been several years since I played there, and I'm not sure they even have a poker room any more. |

Re: PartyPoker.com commercial on WPT
Snooker is a billiards game that is played on I think a ten foot table. The balls and pockets are very small. If I remember right there are red, white and numbered balls. The game is very difficult as the table is long and the pockets are very small!

Re: PartyPoker.com commercial on WPT
Snooker is played on a 12ft table and is similar to pool, except it is points based.
The game ends when all the balls are potted. There a 15 reds worth 1 point 1 yellow 2pts 1 green 3pts 1 brown 4pts 1 blue 5pts 1 pink 6pts 1 black 7pts potting a red ball entitles you to pot a colour. potting a colour results in the coloured ball being placed back on its starting spot and now you have to pot another red ball. when all the reds are potted, the balls are played in colour order and now remain down the pockets when potted top professionals have made over 100 147 maximum breaks (That is they potted all 15 reds with a black each time and then all the colours in order) without leaving the table. Re: PartyPoker.com commercial on WPT
The legaility of playing online poker is definately not settled. There is no statute that prohibits it - specifically - only some that could be possibly interpreted to prevent it.
