Live vs Online
Where do you feel the easier games are? Ive always believed that the tougher games were at a B&M. I can remember playing little games for change at holidays and hearing my uncles always say, "you gotta be pretty damn good to play cards in a casino." With the online sites having players from all over the world, bonus whores, and players identities bieng concealed I would think that these are the tougher games to beat at lower limits. Thanks for your responses in advance.

Re: Live vs Online
Online is much better than live.
-No tipping any dealers -Rake is less -You see many times more hands, so you don't get as bored -You don't need a poker face -You don't need to wait for a table -No commute There are many more benefits to online play than just those. The only reason one should go to a live game is for the social life. Are the players easier? I play no limit, and I'd have to say yes. There are some morons who like to raise a full buyin to win a just few cents in the pot. It's easy to double up off those guys. |

Re: Live vs Online
Live games are easier to beat than online games at similiar limits. Period. End of discussion. This has been discussed at great length here many times.
Are there advantages to playing online? Sure. I'm playing online right now, because I just got home from a B&M and not quite ready to go to sleep. Don't let anyone tell you B&M poker is for the social aspect only. People who say this have very little experience playing live. It all depends on your comfort zones. If you can multitable online without burning out in six months, then go for it. I'd rather sit in a cardroom and grind it out while working my way up the limits. Online poker is there for me as a substitute when I can't get out. But, back to your question, no, your uncles are mistaken if they are implying cardrooms are packed with sharks. They are not. They are fishier than online at the same limits. Onaflag............ |

Re: Live vs Online
Im assuming the softer games make up for the tipping aspect? I agree that if you have a lot of tables to choose from online but, dont you feel it is harder to spot a soft game online compared to actually seeing live people?

Re: Live vs Online
I agree that B&M are softer. I played online for a year straight then stopped playing for a short while to start back up playing B&M. I was shocked as to how soft the B&M games were.

Re: Live vs Online
How much lower would you estimate is your hourly rate live compared to online? Anyone can answer this btw.
Currently I only play online, but that is mainly because I'm still too young to legally play in a casino. However, I'm getting pretty sick of playing online and looking forward to playing in a casino, I'm wondering if it's worth the pay cut to switch to primarily live play. Also, it seems like all the best players, the table one regulars, got to where they are through live play. |

Re: Live vs Online
I find live play miserable. When you play 4-8 tables at once your playing alot of hands and you dont have time to get bored. When i play in a casino if i dont have I-Pod, and a book or magazine I die of boredom. The only time I have fun is when I am with my friends drinking. too slow!

Re: Live vs Online
If you play live and have an Ipod. You are putting yourself at such a disadvantage. Live is far more about reads and tells than online, yeah the average player is looser, but they are also better postflop readers. No the average live player may be poorer, but there are definate sharks among the fishes.

Re: Live vs Online
There is much more "bad money" at higher limits at live play. That being said, its obv more convenient to play online, and theres not gas money involved. I personally, after playing as a "pro" for about a year, now hate playing online. I can sit and play live ofr hours upon hours, but sit me in front of a computer in my apartment, and I cant stand it.
