Paying myself hourly
I read somewhere that Scott Fischman pays himself hourly as to not blow any winnings.
I am thinking of doing the same thing. I am a student and have no other job thus it would be nice if this could be my part-time job. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to go about this. Currently at 3/6 I make roughly 3BB/100 over 30,000 hands. I avg. ~250 hands/hour thus technically I'm making $45/hour. I think a reasonable amount to pay myself would be $20/hour. This will enable my bankroll to grow, as well as leave enough in there to handle downswings. Does this sound right? Anyone else try something like this? Also I would deduct any tournament entries from my wages because those are definitely a losing venture for me and I play them more for fun. |

Re: Paying myself hourly
I think it sounds reasonable, especially if you need something to motivate you to play more. Also if you get "paid" by the hour you might care less about downswings and bad sessions since you get paid the same anyway. Just make sure that you don't pay yourself too much so you might put your bankroll at risk. (Estimating your winrate after only 30k hands is not very easy. You might be a 3 BB/100 player or you might be a 1.5BB/100 player who has been lucky so far.)

Re: Paying myself hourly
You could simply pay yourself your rakeback monthly. Works out to about a very solid hourly rate and doesn't feel like you're taking away from your bankroll.
