Bay 101 20/40
I open UTG with AKo, folded to Dave who 3-bets in the SB. The BB folds, I 4-bet and Dave calls. Flop: 223r Check, bet, call. Turn: 3 Check, bet, call. River: 9 Check, check. |

Looks fine to me, you won't push him off a pair with that board.

I'm a little afraid of getting checkraised on the turn. On this board, he's going to showdown all the hands in his 3-betting range unless he's donking around. I think it's better to check the turn and call a river bet.
Edit: Whoever convinced you to play 20/40 is rad. |

I agree with you that I don't like it here though, because even if sfer "bluffs" the river after jason's turn check, jason is going to chop even when his hand is good. |

Doesn't look like he has a very strong hand, JJ or AK most likely. Why not bet the river and try to fold AK? Or will he call it?

[ QUOTE ] I think it's better to check the turn and call a river bet. [/ QUOTE ] I think this is a good way to get owned by good players. [/ QUOTE ] Can you explain this, Evan? I like betting the turn, too, but only because I don't want to give dave a free card. Giving him a free card, however, doesn't seem worthy of being called "getting owned." In fact, the bet (which I still think is correct) opens up the chance for getting owned even more. You're going to have to call a raise, and if Dave bets the river too you are in tough spot. If he bluffs here with the correct frequency, you will either be paying off his river bets too often or folding a chop hand. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.... |

I don't want to give dave a free card. [/ QUOTE ] You guys are crazy if you think Jason's hand is any good here ever. Look, he raised UTG in a game that is higher than he normally plays, gets three bet by a scary ass opponent in the SB, caps it and sfer is not going away. First off there is no way sfer has AQ or something, he folds preflop. Basically we are hoping either sfer folds his AK (which seems like a very unlikely holding after the flop when he could be drawing practically dead) or folds his TT/JJ/QQ. If you check the turn you turn your hand face up, but at least you save money. If you bet the turn you better be damn willing to bet the river too to see if sfer will fold to the third bullet - but it sure looks like he is just going to call it down to me. The play was give up after the flop, but the real play was not to cap preflop. I will be surprised if sfer is calling down with less than JJ here and QQ seems likely. -DeathDonkey |

IMO, the play is to check behind the turn with AA/KK here and bet/raise the river last time this happened, so you can check behind and take the free showdown here. or, check behind and fold the river this time, and pull the KK/AA move next time. then you can bluff raise AK the time after that if you want. of course, "next time" may be a while from now. but at least we're talking about someone who is paying attention. |
