Hero playing 3/6 pot limit(6 max) with $1200 to start the hand.
Villian: 30/7/3 has me covered. He plays fairly tight ABC poker, nothing tricky though. Hero dealt J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] in the small blind. Folded around to the button who makes it $25 straight. I call. HU on the flop. Flop: J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I lead out for 2/3 pot~ $40. Villian raises the full pot to ~$240. I call and raise to $600 straight. Villian hesitates and calls. At this point I put villain QQ or better with a big spade. Turn: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Yuck We both check. River is a blank. I check. Villian puts me in all for ~$600 with ~$1200 in the pot. Call or fold? |

fold. I don't think I play this hand that fast on the flop. Is this standard for you?

Why not? I would have overbet the pot right off while I was fairly certain I was ahead. And if my opponent raised I'd be pushing. Waiting until the turn is precarious in my opinion.

i hate your flop 3 bet.
half the deck sucks on the turn, and you are too deep to stick it in, so just call and reevaluates things on the turn. this hand illustrates the difference between PL and NL. |

I'm missing something elementary here I think... Do you not think that we are ahead here most of the time by a large margin? Waiting until the turn to find a card that allows us to get away from the hand seems weak to me.
Edit: Oh, PL. This is not a good day for me. - Jim |

I felt I was ahead and was trying to get all my money in on the flop. Of course, this easier said than done in PL. Since it was Pl I felt 3-betting the flop was the best way to get all my money in the middle. |

What exactly are you way ahead of? The only cards are overcards/overpair with no spades. If he has one spade and an overpair/overcards you aren't THAT far ahead....

Two pair is a marginal hand for big pots. If you play fast and get played back, chances are good you're up against a set or better. All you can hope for is maybe top pair with a flush draw, at which point your hand is very vulnerable.
I'd be inclined to show down the hand as cheaply as possible, especially against a good player and OOP too. |
