Baffled on the first hand
Online 1/2, first hand of the session for me:
3 limpers, SB completes, I rap with ATo. Flop: Q83 rainbow. Checked around. Turn: [A] Q83, now two diamonds on the board (I don't have one). SB checks, I bet, folded around to SB, who checkraises. I call. River: [3] AQ83. SB bets, I call. Heckuva way to start a session, eh? |

Re: Baffled on the first hand
I'd expect that SB also has an A and you'll chop.

Re: Baffled on the first hand
Was my assessment as well on the river, hence the crying call. Actually, he had AQ for top 2. So even though he made a lot less on this hand than he should have, he still extracted the max from me. Grr...

Re: Baffled on the first hand
If I thought there was any chance of getting SB to fold an A, I would raise the river. You are most likely chopping since you both have a Q kicker due to the board pairing.

"If I thought there was any chance of getting SB to fold an A, I would raise the river."
--Agreed. Two problems with that, though: 1. This is $1/$2 we're talking about here. A weak ace isn't going anywhere. 2. It's my first hand... Not even a slight read on the opponent. |

Re: Baffled on the first hand
True. I agreed with your play on all streets, so the only comment I could think of to provide was sort of theoretical. In another game at another limit.......this could be a good play.

Marbles: '--I concur. ' Clarkmeister: 'Are you two nuts?' I have never met the player at any limit who will fold an ace here to a river raise. Its similar to raising someone headsup when you are playing the straight on the board. This is at best a crying call, lets not get carried away with FPS raises that will never ever ever get a better (or the same) hand to fold, but will frequently get reraised. |

Your play looks fine to me.

Re: Baffled on the first hand
Small pot and you can really only beat a bluff-slow-play. Against most I'd throw this one away on the turn when he raises.
