Default Pot Odds Chart

Hey guys.

I'm not sure how much you care about stuff like this, but I'm a nit, so...

I made an odds chart that calculated half-outs.

So for example, 3.5 outs actually comes to 12.43:1, instead of the midpoint between the two odds, which is 12.71.

I made one similar to that but in an Excel spreadsheet. What formula were you using to compute these numbers? Is there any way to upload files to posts?

Well, one of the formulas is given in SSHE.

(going from flop to turn or turn to river)

Your % chance is:

(cards-outs)/cards

(flop = 47 cards, turn = 46)

converting this to odds:

(cards-outs) / outs

-----

To figure out the % chance on flop to river:

1-A/B

Where A/B is the chance of not hitting.

So A would be (flop cards-outs)*(turn cards-outs)

and B would be (flop cards)*(turn cards)...

To get the odds, you want to do do the following:

(B-A) / A

Basically the only thing that I did with my chart that's special is include the half-outs.

I found Excel to be somewhat easier then coding in Perl. Same equations and results as you guys are getting. All I do is input in one cell the number of outs I'm giving myself and it spits out the rest in the other cells I have set up for it. Nice and neat. I'd post the spreadsheet here but I can't upload any files to the forums.

I am a programmer and wrote a small program to calculate odds from both the flop and turn for any number of outs. Anyone interested in it? If so I'll find a place to host it and put it out there.

Being an engineer, and working in software engineering, This is cool.....

From a practical standpoint, wouldn't we be spending our time better some other way? Unless you're Mr. Spock, I don't think while you're Whoring 4 tables, the difference between calling 12.43:1 odds vs 12.71, will make much difference in the long run...

But then again, I a whore at the 1/2 (and below) limit, losing money (or breaking even at best - keep telling myself it's a losing streak ), and maybe if you're playing NL these make a big difference.

My current odds chart I have overlayed on all my tables (Party skins, Crypto, Prima) only go from 1 out to 8... Since you rarely have a 22:1 pot, I only ever seem to use the following odds from 2 - 8. Then I realized that it might make sence to add more odds once I move to NL...

How much is your time worth?

Ok I'll put it out there and post an update here later today. It shouldn't take more than a few minutes to package it and get it uploaded.

Nah, even in NLHE, this isn't a big difference.

Also, Ciaffone says to not get involved when you're a big dog or a small winner, so it's especially not important unless your hand reading skillz are legendary.

My time's worth a lot to me.

But this is the sort of weird stuff that I enjoy doing, and I didn't have an odds chart (I was going by memorized figures and I was having trouble remembering, so Ihad to break out the charts again).

In NLHE, you're less concerned with pot odds than at LHE.

Anyways, for me, this was just about being a nit, pure and simple, for the sake of being a nit. This actually makes me a better player, I'm sure.

Lets say you are on tilt. Playing poker is -ev. Thinking about poker isn't. Writing a quick program is just the thing.

Besides you can easily modify that perl script to out put an odds card of any detail you want. I made a much smaller one and overlaid it on my talbes.
