Playing tighter is difficult.
If you are used to splashing around and playing lots of hands, trying to tighten up is difficult.
I am down below 25% VPIP for the month to date, which is still to loose and my preflop raise is up to 8.9%. No instant gratification though, I am on a downswing but change is painful so it is all good. |

Is calling really that much fun?

Re: Playing tighter is difficult.
Splashing around and playing is fun. If it wasn't then nobody would play. It would just be all rocks all the time and the only winner would be the house. Kinda like 7 card stud.

Re: Playing tighter is difficult.
I already did, that is how I got to 25%. I am heading for 20%.
You guys aren't thinking clearly, if it wasn't fun to splash around, you would all have to go get jobs. Be thankful that poker is fun to play because the profit comes from people that enjoy playing. |

But if you're not able to overcome that base "I like to play a lot" instinct, then you'll have a hard time becoming another more than a breakeven low limit player. And to be honest, tightening up is about the easiest step I've gone through as a poker player. If you want to win money, going from loose-passive to tight-passive is much easier than going from tight-passive to tight-aggressive --- and MUCH easier than becoming a skilled tight-aggresive, something I'm always struggling with. Tightening up is just not. that. hard. Just play fewer hands. Stop coldcalling for awhile (fold/raise instead). Read SSH for starting hand guidelines, and stick to them -- the tight, not the loose guidelines. |

Raising 13% of your hands is a lot more fun than having a vpip of 25.
