default play with AQo
Stars $10 Rebuy, ~50 left, avg. stack ~180K, blinds 6000/12000/a600
UTG (147K) folds, UTG+1 (251K) opens for 24K, 500K and 111K fold. I have AQo and 197K in the CO. I'm probably somewhere between 12th and 15th at the moment. Stacks still to act have 128K, 113K, 287K. No read on UTG+1 (new to table). I had reads on the three players still to act, but I’m not going to give them. The table dynamics were such that the decision was a very easy one, but I want to hear what people think the default play is in this situation. What would you do? Later, Che |

Re: default play with AQo
I think the hands to act behind are trouble. Specifically the BB with 287K.
I think you can pop it to 75K and see what develops but I would be more inclinded to fold this hand. (That and the number 1 hand for my busting out of these things is AQx) Just calling gets you to see a cheap flop or will put you in a decision for all your chips if the BB gets aggressive. I would have more confidence that folding to a push is correct if I reraise here rather than just calling. All that being said I think I fold my weak tight, AQx hating A**. |

Re: default play with AQo
Maybe I'm becoming weak-tight, but I usually don't go after stacks that can bust me AQo after they raise in EP.
You have 16BB's, lots of time to look for an easier spot. If the table was super agro and finding spots was tough, and I thought UTG+1 was opening light, I may push, but my default play here is to fold. Were you able to steal enough at this table to not worry about it? Were the blinds going up soon? Regards, Woodguy |

In fact, I thought they were still 4000/8000 and that he had made a 3BB raise, not a minraise. |

Re: default play with AQo
It looks like a regular raise in Double Eagles's reply.
Well if the level just started, and I'm not going to be at 8BB's for a while, I fold. I do think the re-raise steal is more effective than the open raise steal, but again, you've been stealing effectively, EP raise from a guy who can bust you, you don't know if he's been out of line, and your push will look like it doesn't want a call...meh, I fold. Re: default play with AQo
EP raises always scare me. This is a fold. If there were a lot fewer shortstacks left (you said you are above average with only 15xBB) I might play it but here I don't.

Re: default play with AQo
I cant fold here. With 16bb and such, I think you have to push. Calling is pretty much a bad idea because you really cant afford to call and hope to flop top pair here. I have made this fold before, but it was because I had a read on UTG raiser. In this spot with no read, you have to assume that the range of hands UTG+1 is raising with is something like A9+, KJ+, any pair.

Re: default play with AQo
With an UTG+1 min raise you put him on:
[ QUOTE ] A9+, KJ+, any pair. [/ QUOTE ] You don't put him on a big PP? Totally discount it or just think its unlikely? |
