20/40 he.
so anyway i really try to just fold my blinds if at all possible (considering how everybody plays and future action and stuff, eg, 6d7d when half in in a multiway pot is just too good to pass up but i may rethink this in time). so anyway tommy would be proud of me, up until this hand. mid position kid whos steaming real bad raises all fold to me in big blind, and i cant resist the powerhouse of 9c2c. (73s, you know the thread) so anyway the flop comes 236 or something rainbow with one club. - i checkraise and get 3 bet. great. thanks a lot guys. so i call and get ready to suck out, as per my usual style turn brings an offsuit 9 ! - ok i bet and get raised and i 3 bet, i mean i can beat AA no problem, ive got the mighty 92! thanks a lot guys! here comes the river - another 6! 236 9 6. thanks a lot guys! i check , and, guy checks behind! hes got 77 and i win! thanks a lot guys! |

I know you didn't specifically blame me, but I'm taking some license and assuming I might be one of "u guys." And I'm saying I shouldn't be because if you had followed my advice, you'd have a 50/50 chance of not playing the hand, depending on whether your first card was a 9 or a 2.
With 9-2, I like to double down; if that option is not allowed in the casino, surrender. |

rather results-oriented, aren't we?
calling this one hu is a player-dependant thing for me. with another caller in-between us i'll call it almost every time. since it is heads up, what is the goal of the checkraise? get him to lay down ak? he's got a max of 6 outs with any non-pair hand here, and he's beating you with any pair. my default action would be to check/call the flop and make a funny poke bet on the turn - the kind that makes people raise you with ak. i'll 3bet as quick as his chips hit the felt. if you checkraise here, you will knock bare overcards out. if you bet, you will often get 3 bets out of them. on the river you have almost no semblance of a hand. check/fold unless they're any kind of tricky/weird. |

i should expand a bit on the 'player-dependant' thing. the player would have to be somebody from which i can make some money.
beyond that, i would only tend to do it when i had been folding what appeared to be more than my fair share of hands. |

Calling with this hand with from the BB with another caller in between is ridiculously negative EV. There is no way 9-2s turns a profit there....and yes I read the 7-3s thread.
It's so far from close its scary. |

maybe reread it? i did, and the bit about how you lose xxx checkfolding the flop and make xxx when you hit and go to the river sums it up pretty succinctly.
vs ako + kqs 73s wins over 30% of hot and cold showdowns. you checkfold when you miss, and you go to the river and win decent pots when you win. the overlay is large, and you don't need to be a sklansky-caliber player to capitalize on it. david sklansky, negreanu, my own logic, and the stats from a TON of online hands i've played tell me that it's a winning proposition. big blind: $19.33 per hand average 5/10: folded on the flop 5/10: folded on the turn (checked through flop) 8/16: made $73 with a flush. a small sampling from a large pool of hands, but as you can see i can call quite a few raises to see another 2 pair, flush, etc... that's just for 92s, i've got tons of suited junk hands to quote if you really want the details. |

"vs ako + kqs 73s wins over 30% of hot and cold showdowns."
If we should be happy to take 7-3 against KQ, does that mean we should not be happy to take KQ against 7-3? (I played a hand last night where I raised with KQ and it came down to headsup against the big blind. The flop came 7-7-3 and we both checked every street. He turned over 7-3, and then he tossed me a five-dollar chip because he felt bad for calling preflop.) Tommy |

we shouldn't be excited at the idea of running 73s into anything, but the overlay is high enough to try to flop something
i think people easily lose more money missing with something like kqs vs a blind than they do calling and folding the flop against it w/73s |
