Should i use names instead of #s in posts????
ive noticed that at party 1/2 the #s dont mean as much about postflop play.
therefore should i use names instead of #s in my posts. this would give other 1/2 players a better idea since #s just dont have the same meaning....different players use those #s differently. i.e.: 26/10/1.6 bet vs. XXXXXXXXXX bets where id fill in XXXXXXXXX with a real players name. so which is it? -Barron |

Use both?
I find these hands interesting, but I don't know the 1/2 crowd, so some numbers would still be useful (when they are meaningful). Also, as I'm sure your aware, a certain amount of tact is needed when using player names. However, if using players names becomes common place on the forum, this could cause problems. |

Re: Should i use names instead of #s in posts????
What's wrong with just describing their postflop play normally? Or stats + description?
The names don't give anyone information unless they know that player. I am not strongly against posting other player's name, but I don't think it's that beneficial or neccessary. |

Re: Should i use names instead of #s in posts????
If you were describing a 80/160 hand from say the Bellagio where a lot of the guys on here might know your opponents and their tendencies, wouldn't you identify them?
You might also describe their play a little for those people who don't know your opponents, but that wouldn't stop you from naming them as that tells the whole picture, right? So why would online be any different? Sure, those opponents might read your post on here and learn a little about YOU, but I think in the end you'll gain more from making fully informative posts where you get the most out of them, moreso than your opponents who read them will gain. I don't like it...namely because I wouldn't like it if you or anyone else unwittingly divulged info on my s/n in a public forum. This is a micro-version of what Party is trying to curtail by nixing poker-edge or whatever. If a player wants to take a shot at the bigger games, they should put in their own work to find out if player X is tricky or too loose in the blinds or whatever.

[/ QUOTE ] I suspect this is why people would vote for listing names. For the record, I think your read should be nameless and descriptive, so numbers when relevant, postflop tendencies when relevant. But above all, nameless. |

[/ QUOTE ] This is simply drawing the line at where it's most convenient for you. There are a number of players who think using PT and other tools is wrong. If one of them said to you "you should put in your own work by playing the players and figuring it out on your own without using software programs" I bet you would dismiss that. Right? FWIW, I think all high limit hand posts would be better with names. |
